IKEA Komplement Cage
I finally got the IKEA Komplement cage built and video edited, so thought I would discuss it all here:
IKEA Komplement Cage1 forum.jpg

In the end it cost me approx £130 to do absolutely everything, including the actual cage, the lid, attaching the lid and adding a piston arm so the lid will stay open without it having to rest on anything such as a wall (got this idea from my Marrakesh cage) and making a platform with wheels for it to go on. My video shows how to do all of these steps.
If you just want to make the basic cage with a lid attached it will be approx £96
I am housebound so reliant on ordering items that can be delivered, so you may find all the items cheaper elsewhere.
I have listed absolutely everything I bought with prices in the description under the video:

The tools you will need are drill, screwdriver, staple gun and a saw.
The internal measurements are:
96cm x 57cm x 55.5cm high = 5472 sq cm = 848 sq inches
Downside is it is a very heavy cage but the upside is that this makes it more solid and secure than some of the other IKEA hacks.
Overall I am very happy with it.
If anyone has any questions, just ask and I will try to answer.

Re: IKEA Komplement Cage
Great job Luna! I wonder who the lucky occupant is going to be. How long do we have to wait to find out?

I wonder too 😁
Just having a rest at the moment, weevils, house move and the hamsters being ill, especially Moonbeam has really taken it out of me. So unless an emergency rescue comes along it might be a while. Plus I still want to make some platforms for the cage.

Platforms? That will be interesting. Freestanding or do you attach them to the cage?

Yes that makes sense and you could make them in different heights with connecting bendy bridges like the shelves in the Plaza. The idea i copied which works ever so well for Clive.

Re: IKEA Komplement Cage
It looks lovely. Is there an option to make a 120cm version?

Guessing you could always buy another komplement shelf (100x58cm) flip and cut the 58cm in half then half again. Put 14.5cm of wood on each side of the glass frame and the same to the back piece of wood. Shave off whatever you need too from the top to make it level. Glass frame would still be central. If there’s an official way to do it I’m interested too

Thanks, not from the IKEA Komplement range, 100cm is the biggest size.
I think the only way is like Otto says, adding extra bits of wood, to either side of glass panel so it stays in the middle, you could buy any size panel you wanted then and just cut it into 4 pieces. Then I guess screw it altogether, making sure you don't hit the screws with another screw.

Yes I want to make longer platforms as I miss having the shelves that you can use in a barred cage. That's awesome re Clive.
