Is it for a Syrian? Don't believe everything you read on Facebook. I'd say the Hamster Heaven is absolute minimum for a Syrian - and they may (or may not) need upgrading at some point). It's fine for a dwarf hamster.

Where did you find the Barney cage? They're incredibly hard to get hold of now - only second hand usually. There was the old version which was slightly bigger than the hamster heaven (82cm long and a bit taller) and the newer version which is the 100cm by 54cm which does have great floorspace.

However it only has the small doors on front - it's a good cage for a confident hamster who wants to come out regularly but I had problems with it for a shy or nervous hamster (can't get them out!) And they don't like a hand coming through the top door.

If it's for a shy or nervous hamster they'd be better off in the hamster heaven with the big front door. Or the Savic Plaza with plenty of overhead cover.

It is for the dwarf I have that were going to the vet. He currently lives in duna fun large, but as he is a little shy, I want to give him a barred cage. I dont like the plaza as I have bad experience with it. Zooplus have the barney. What is the measures at the smallest?

Minimum size i'd go for is 80cmx50cm like the Hamster Heaven which is a good cage for a dwarf.

Facebook gives people's opinions. I heard this about the Hamster Heaven not having enough floor space because it tapers. If people only cover the floor with one cm of bedding they won't but if they fill the base right up as they should do, then they'd be back at 80cmx50cm.

Zooplus doesn't sell the Barney in the UK but interesting to hear that they sell it in Norway.

I was tempted to buy a second hand one recently but decided against it because i wouldn't be happy with the small doors.

I wouldn't use it for a shy dwarf hamster. The Hamster Heaven would be much better. It's a good size for a dwarf hamster. Not too big, not too small. If the hamster is shy as well, the large front door on the Hamster Heaven will make interaction easier - front access.

The Hamster Heaven is a safe height for a dwarf hamster as well. With the Barney you'd either need a full level putting in or put perspex up the inside bars for about 8" all round to have deep bedding (ie to reduce the height that way).

I wouldn't put a shy dwarf hamster in the Barney cage. Annoying they don;t make a 100cm hamster heaven isn't it? I know what you mean about the Plaza - it's not quite as sturdy - I find it fine. I think the problem you had was one collapsing when two were stacked wasn't it? They're fine if on a solid surface though.

I'd use the Hamster Heaven for your dwarf.

My roborovski hamster loves being in the hamster heaven (was in a 100 x 50cm barred cage).

Yes, it fell apart. I did get a woman who have a store to measure it for me, and the bottom is 85 cm or something. Cages is a discusion theme here in norway as I have said before that hamsters dont like the hand coming from above.

One off my other hamster did come from a home that did not use cage, but had them living in a playpen with almost no toys and hides. He have shown progress, but if I do take my hand out off the cage, he do gets nervous. I feel so bad that there are people out there who do have their animals live like that.

You mean the Barney is 85cm? It might be the older Barney cage. That was slightly bigger than the hamster heaven. I think it was 82cm or maybe 86 cm long, probably the same depth, but it was also taller. This made it look bigger, but for a dwarf hamster the lower height of the Hamster Heaven is better (and the big front door).

No, the hamster plaza. The only thing I`m nervous for is if he starts to bite at the bars.
