Default Savic Orbital wheel

Does anybody have or has had the blue Savic Orbital wheel?

I'm looking for opinions because it's such an odd wheel but Syrian Clive loves it. I acquired one as part of a free cage.

The wheel is very low to the ground and the stand has hooks on one side so the stand isn't flat. It is possible to attach it to bars with the hooks.

I'm thinking of trying it out before buying him a new wheel because i still don't know which wheel would suit Clive. He is small but very heavy footed and runs in any big wheel. The lightweight Trixies aren't sturdy enough for him and he makes them move.

I have no idea how i would place the Savic Orbital in a barred cage.

It's too low to go on substrate or sand but i can't see how it could go on a solid surface with that base.

Would it stay in place if hooked onto the bars with Clive being a clonky runner?

Any input, experience or advice would be appreciated and thank you in advance.

Yes i used it on the bars in the savic plaza with twinkle after his accident. They just hook on.
I was trying to think why i swopped it with his silent runner but imthink it was because i could take it on and off the bars quickly and easily compared to the silent runner which is awkward to attach on the savic plaza when only 1 pair of hands.

Ive also used it in a zoozone on the floor with moonbeam and yes it is annoying that the bedding used to get underneath it and i was forever pulling it out, but it was the only large wheel i could find that fitted in that cage

Thank you Luna.

I think Clive suits the wide running surface so i'll give it a go. The other option i'm considering is the wide 12in Silent Runner but need to find out how the width compares to the Orbital's width.

My theory is that a wider surface distributes the impact of a clonky runner better than a normal surface. Only a theory as i really do not know if that is the case.

The normal 12in Silent Runner is very bouncy and could end up more like a trampoline with Clive on it.

There's a picture of it attached to bars on these amazon reviews. Looks like a good option. The green silent runner has a 4" deep track - which is really quite big and bulky.

Wish I'd seen the savic orbital as an option for a cage mounted wheel! I didn't know much about them. Is it noisy?

It's noisy with Clive on it but much quieter with Rodney. That's a thought. I think it's too noisy for his cage. It's on the floor in the bathroom which is maybe a good place for it. I hooked it on the shoe rack before and must do that tomorrow night to see if it's less noisy. It is a good, sturdy wheel and comes apart like the Silent Runner.

Yes, 4in is quite wide. Maybe the regular Silent Runner attached to the bars is the way to go.

The regular silent runner is 9cm deep which is a good depth for most hamsters and deeper than the trixie wheel I think.

Yes, Jack has one and he's a big hamster. Clive's only little.

Oh yes, forgot you had one I remember going through all this with our first syrian who was large and chunky. The 27cm wodent wheel was only 7cm deep (I think the Trixie is the same?) - apart from the fact he needed a bigger wheel, I worried he might rub his fur off at the sides running in a narrower wheel. This was before the silent runner came out and I'd had two wood trixie wheels break, so I bought the 12" wobust wheel - which was very very deep! He loved it but it was really really bulky - similar to the green silent runner I think.

Yes, the Trixie is about 7cm deep. The Orbital is very deep, 9 or 10cm but i'm going to try it in the Plaza.

The Plaza is work in progress. I like the idea of the deep bedding panels from this vikinglaser site and fancy them on one side of the cage. I'm thinking of perspex for posters which i could cut into size and attach with a short bolt, washer and wing nut. I could also cut and use the grey base of small cages or go to Ikea in Bristol to get a panel. Need to have a look around to see what's what.

See how the boys settle after the swap around last night.
