Just out of interest - how did you finish the cut bars? So the dremel has a cutting tool - does it have a metal sanding tool as well - to finish rough edges?
The grey marble effect is just duck tape.

Yes, i have different kind of cutting discs, pvc and metal, for the Dremel. The discs are from B&Q.

I used wire cutters for the thin bars and the Dremel for the thick ones.

I used a Dremel metal file bit to file the end bits down but they are covered by the plastic bit from the door which sits flash against the bars. Kind of sunk into the square i cut out.

I suppose an all wire door panel would be easier to do but i couldn't find a door big enough. Here's a close up.

It looks a very professional job! I have thought about getting a dremel a few times but keep reading so many reviews about how they pack up! Most of my diy is sawing bits of wood and sanding. I can see a dremel would be good for cutting cage bars. I could do with a decent small saw just for things like cutting dowels and those chunky rodipet legs. OH has a smallish saw but I struggle with it. I have a really small one that's not much more than a steak knife! But it won't quite go through dowels.

I've used the Dremel for wood as well. Just small jobs like cutting out an extra door on a wooden house.

The Dremel we have is quite an old one. Maybe the newer ones are not so good, like everything i suppose. Nothing's made to last anymore.

My OH found a panel of acrylic in his shed so didn't need to buy one.

I just cut out 3 panels and attached them with short bolts, washers and wing nuts to create a digging area on one side.

He sounds like a perfectionist. I am the opposite and just want things done as quickly as possible.

The perspex panels look great - way better than chewable cardboard! I also like Luna's shelf idea for that cage. Looking forward to seeing it finished. Lucky Hamster.

I have always balked at the idea of drilling perspex in case it cracked. Any tips?
