Default Need new cheap wheel

Hey all,

Have searched the forum and not found anything suitable so making a new one- sowi!

Since being moved to his new cage few months ago Indy has taken a liking to his wheel. I don't know what caused this change of heart..certainly not paranoid about his weight, he is mega skinny and is my eldest!

Anyway, I tried him with a savic rolly which he turned his nose at and the one he is using is a cheap plain plastic bog standard one that came with the cage.

As he is long haired he gets it tangled a little in the spoke even though he gets a trim but i put some paper round it and he doesnt bother with it.

The past few weeks he has started to use it loads more and im concered because he has to stretch up because he is too big.

I don't want to deter him from using his wheel now he is in it but i don't want to risk spending lots if he decided to not use a new one.

I am not too keen on the wodents and need one that can be attached to the bars as he has no space left!

Don't wanna spend more than a fiver really, truely am skint!

Help!

xXx

sounds like an ebay silent spinner would be the best thing, if you really want it to be attached to the cage. the only thing is they're a little small. £5 is not a good budget for a nice usable wheel though, as i'm sure you know. surely it would be best to have him make do with what he has while you save for a proper wheel that will last a while.

also - i am wondering why he doesn't want the Rolly. my hams use it even though they're spoiled with nicer wheels. If you used olive oil on it, it may be leaking out of the spindle and getting all over him which is why he doesn't want in. I'd say wash it out completely with soapy water and rinse it in hot water. Then put a zip tie or metal washer along the spindle before popping the wheel back in to make it more sturdy. see if he'll use it without the oil.

oh he never used it. The oil was on the back part and the paper never showed any sign of it leaking through either..he just a fussy bugger!

I saw the silent wheels, they look quite small...i don't mind paying if i know he'll use it is my issue. None of my mates have one i could borrow to try out!

catch 22, just don't want him hurting his back

odd little things they are lol x

Just wondering how come you dislike the wodent wheels? I have found that even my ham who hated wheels before really loves her Wodent I also know some people have managed to attach them to the top of the cage by the stand.

there is the classic type wheel found in most pet shops. I have no idea what its called but this is porridge on one:

It is 8 inche and i don't think it'd be too expensive depending where you get it from.
I only stopped using it cause of the noise!

oh forgot to say the noise of squeeking stops with oil its just the rattling on the bars and the vibrating the wheel makes.
It comes with a detachable stand.

Just measured Indys, his is 6"...the other hams fit in theirs, well bear just sits in his, gizmo is still baby size and pumpkin has a differnt technique!

Indy's is pretty much like that but is 6", its the only kind/size ive seen in my local shops, ill have a gander on ebay.

Dont mind the noise though, they have their own room x

lucky bugger, can't say i find finding pet shops here in centre of brum very easy so my choice little limited.

Does porridge want to sell his wheel to indy?

i like the noise of him on his wheel purely because he never used it until his new cage and its nice to see him enjoying something! x
