Honestly, in my opinion it's one of the best on the market. How big is your cage? When I had 4 hamsters (2 x 100x50 and 2x 80x50 cages) I could get good depth of bedding in all cages with 1 20kg bale. Give it a go and tell us what you think ☺️

How did you work this one out?
The Kaytee in the 85l bag is compressed. I'm not disputing that what you say is incorrect, i'm just curious how you worked this out and came up with 28l.

Ambient, I like it, I am a convert for sure, i think i have tried all bedding apart from the small pet select and tea bag (won't try that as can't guarantee it is compostable)
I like fitch that much that I went from using several different substrates in a cage to just that. Give it a go, I think you will like it.
The only reason I buy the 4kg bales is that It's easier for me to move them. I used to get the 15kg in a box, but they don't seem to do that one anymore. But it was a pain to move, until you started using some of it

It was really easy to find on the packaging, right on the front towards the bottom when you look at pictures etc. It states 28.3l, expands to 85l. The 28.3l amount is what it is while compressed!

Re: How much is 20kg of fitch bedding in Litres?
I also just remembered I used to describe the size of the 10kg bale as equivalent to the size of a child's beanbag chair (ie a bit smaller than a standard beanbag chair). So the 20kg would be really quite big. Although can't see it on the website any more.
Because the plastic bag is oversized it means you can squish the fitch around in it to make the bag whatever shape you want for storage. Initially I had it in the corner of a room with a throw over it (so it looked like a child's beanbag chair) - until it went down inside. At one time I squished it long and thin so it fitted between a wardrobe and a wall (out of sight). Another time squished it low and wide so it fitted under a chair. Currently I just have the bag in a wardrobe as there's room for it (but that's the 10kg size).
Think I got my maths a bit out there as well. I reckon a 10kg bag on it's own would easily fill a 120 x 50 cage to 12" deep, even compressed. But it may take more than that I'm not sure.

According to my kitchen scales a 85l bag of Kaytee weighs just over 4 kg and not 3.5 kg. Maybe my scales are wrong.

That's useful Ria. So that means 20kg would be about 425litres. I think Ambient had worked that one out earlier - not sure how. And 10kg would be about 212 litres - so a 10kg bag would be more than enough. And it would need 2.5 bags of kaytee to be equivalent to 10kg of Fitch.

That'd be great. My enclosure is 122x50.

The image Ria sent me stated that 85L=3.5kg, I divided 20 by 3.5 and multiplied the value by 85 I believe.
