I'm almost tempted - except I don't need to replace the bars ha ha.
That's funny. It would be cool to have one to see how well it goes. Having just spent weeks on building a komplement cage, this would have been easier to do, work out way lighter and slightly cheaper (if you already had the cage) 🙃
Although the komplement works out 8cm taller, 11cm more depth but a few cm
Less than 100cm, think its 97cm. I think this business has potnetial, deffinetly will share it. Thanks for bringing it to our attention

My cage frustration is emerging! When you want something bigger than a Plaza cage but not diy. We used to be so reliant on Zooplus, but nada (except the hamster heaven). Amazon.de no longer seems to stock any Skyline or other larger cages either.

There are a couple of German online petstores who sell larger cages - the ones Amazon used to sell. One doesn't ship outside Germany. The other showed it ships all over Europe - to just about every European country. They have both the two tier Carlos cage and the 100cm x 72cm San Marino (same as the Hoppelgarten).

So I emailed them to ask if they would ship to the Uk and had a polite reply saying "due to the current situation, deliveries to England are no longer possible".

It seems ridiculous - I can only assume it's because we're not part of EU now. Overnight air mail shipping between countries is perfectly possible! So why not? Has England been banned?! If it wasn't for Savic we'd be stuck!

I also think Skyline (makers of the Barney, Alexander etc) must have gone bust - you can't find their cages for sale anywhere now - not even on German sites.

Rodent Cages

So I am currently drooling over the Carlos cage on that link above. There used to be a Uk seller of that - they called it the Sky Rat 100 - but clearly imported from Germany - their web page is defunct now.

Had another reply from the pet store in Germany

"We used to sell a lot to England. I liked the English customers very much and they were always very nice customers.

Unfortunately, the Brexit has made it very difficult to export the goods. You need a lot of customs documents and when the customer wants to return the goods, it gets really complicated. Unfortunately, the effort is no longer worth it, and the postage costs are much more expensive than before.

I am very sorry that I cannot help you."

So I was thinking - what if I became a Uk official importer? Looked up the regulations and I can see what the man means - it is a MOUNTAIN of bureacracy. For both the person importing and the company exporting. Which presumably why we won't be getting cages from Germany any more. Unless they can cut some of the bureaucracy.

Would be easier to get into manufacturing, lol.

I'm going to have a go at making a top door for a Plaza. I just bought a small, tank style cage off Gumtree and will have a go at cutting out a perspex panel with a door. If i ruin it, there's only a fiver lost but at least no hamster is ever going to live in this cage again.

A very good way to recycle awful small cages I guess I could write to savic again and ask them to make a two tier Plaza (similar to the Carlos!). I wrote to them years back asking them to make a 100cm hamster heaven and they were very helpful and pleasant and wrote back saying they had been considering this and would keep me updated and asked me various questions about what I thought the cage needed, height etc. Of course it's not quite a 100cm hamster heaven! But they did say it would be similar to the Zeno rat cage.

Now technically the Zeno 3 with a full level would be the equivalent of a Carlos. It's 116cm tall so one level would be higher than 50 cm but that wouldn't matter as they couldn't climb the roof on the lower level as it would be solid and not bars.

I might consider that. A Zeno 3 with a full level. Not quite what I had in mind though.

Why do you want a two tier cage? Would it not be too high?

I check the gumtree ads and collect free cages or very cheap ones in my area and then take great pleasure in breaking them before recycling.

I don’t particularly. Just thinking of cage options bigger than the 100cm x 50cm without meshing a guinea pig cage.
