Need a larger wheel
I got Neptr a 28cm wheel, however after watching him run on it, I'm noticing how his body isn't straight and therefore I'll need to be upgrading. Is there anything I can get that's more than 28cm?

Re: Need a larger wheel
Tic tac wheels sell huge wheels. I think up to 14 inches.

Re: Need a larger wheel
I think for the quality of Trixie, I don't really want to spend £40 on their wheel. Neptr is on their 28cm wheel, and I've just found it to be structurally deficient.
For the tic tac wheels, is there a way to get a metal one with a stand? Neptr doesn't have a barred cage, so was just wondering on that note. He also pees on his wheel, so I think metal would be my best option to avoid pee soaking into the plastic.

Is that what they charge?! Our Jack is a big 280g Syrian and has the 12in Silent Runner from the sugarglider shop. He runs fine on that. The wheel works out to around £32 incl postage. Not everyone likes bright orange though. They do a bigger one in a khaki green i think.

Re: Need a larger wheel
I saw the £40 and thought that’s not right but it’s true! They only have one on Amazon right now for £40.
I wanted to share this link though: Exercise Wheel & Stand for Hamsters, Rats & Small Rodents | eBay
That’s £23 for plastic Trixie wheel on eBay or for a pound more can get the wooden one: Trixie Exercise Wheel For Degus/Rats 33cm - Wood & Cork - Smooth Surface - Quiet 4011905609249 | eBay
Although I have heard a lot of mixed views on wooden wheels. I’d use plastikote to protect it and I’m not sure but I think I’ve hear people say they wear quicker so start making more noise. I could just be making that up though!
I personally like Trixie wheel but I’ve only got a 28cm wheel version so I can’t comment of 33cm and I’ve never had a more expensive brand to compare against. I know there’s a lot of great wheels just I think you’d be looking minimum £30+ for something silent.

Wow as soon as I sent the link for the 33cm plastic Trixie wheel, I just reloaded the page and it’s sold out…you could message maybe asking when it will be back in stock?

Re: Need a larger wheel
I had no idea there was a 33cm trixie wheel! If you want something bigger you'd be looking at a 12" wheel probably (30cm). Getzoo do one, so do Rodipet (except rodipet are out of stock and you can get the getzoo ones on Amazon quicker).
But - the Getzoo 30cm wheel is only 28cm internally - so you want the 33cm one (which is 30cm internally). Youll need to paint it with plastikote so it's wipe clean but it doesn't take much doing.
I've used wood wheels and they have never got ruined. My main concern is I think they must absorb a hamster's scent more than a plastic wheel, so I've tended to only keep them for the lifetime of the hamster. Although it's probably possible to de-scentify them with some effort.

Re: Need a larger wheel
I saw the Getzoo one, but it is only 28cm internally and thus rendering as useless as Neptr's current one.
Another issue is Neptr loves to wee on his wheel, so all wooden wheels are an instant no. Unfortunate as I want him to have a natural enclosure, but it must be done.
Cost isn't an issue, for the moment. I have a decent budget to splurge on the hamsters, which I am lucky for. Big rodipet parcels and new acrylic sheets, what more can a wheel do?
Currently, the tic tac wheels look the best, but I want to swerve the bucket ones. The metal wouldn't absorb any pee, but I can't use fixtures in his cage. The wheel would need a stand.
