Default Houses and hides

Are Robo and Dwarf hamsters okay to use Syrian size hides and houses? I was wondering if they would not feel safe in them. I am asking as I have enough Syrian size items but being unsure of which species I will have, I was not sure if I should get Dwarf sized things too. I have the Rodipet Syrian size terracotta hide and it is quite big so I thought a little hamster may not find it cosy. My ceramic hides are all Syrian sized too.

Mostly they should be. The main reason to have smaller houses and hides is - it's all that's necessary and saves cage space. I think the Rodipet ceramic terracotta hide could be too difficult to get in and out of for a dwarf or robo though - It has an angled side doesn't it? That could be difficult to climb up - robos aren't great uphill (some have furry feet/soles).

I think they generally prefer cosier things maybe in terms of house height roof but a house should be fine. As I mentioned before I had a large cork log for our first robo and he used to spend ages inside it scratching bits off, and climbing over it. I think anything enclosed feels fine for them though - as long as they can get in and out easily.

The Syrian Rodipet labyrinth house again, the top entrance may be too high for a dwarf or robo to get out of.

Do you have photos of individual items?

Thank you for your help. Yes, I can now see the Rodipet Syrian hide is likely too big. The ceramic hides I have are the same kind of size too. I will try to get the Rodipet dwarf hide set.

This is the ceramic hide I have:
Easter Egg Green Small Animal Bed Ceramic Cute Hamster Gerbile | Etsy UK

I was going to put it on a platform to ensure it does not squash a hamster.

I find that anything big they either fill up with or sink into substrate anyway.

I use the Critter's Choice Teddy hides for all hamsters, same as the coconut hides and houses.

They do like a small hide too. My dwarf Edwina's favourite hide was a small, 99p ceramic oil burner.

Yes, they are all suitable for dwarf and the Easter Egg should be fine for a Syrian as well.

All Robos and dwarfs here have the apple or water melon hide.
Love the Egg hide.

Aww, thank you. I was a bit worried the egg hide may not be suitable.

Agree, they are all suitable. The natures first one is definitely syrian sized (I have one) but perfectly fine for a dwarf hamster. I actually got mine for Pip the Robo's cage but didn't have space for it. That's the downside to syrian sized things - they do take up a lot of space! I initially put it in Raffy's cage but then had to take it out again as there wasn't space for that and the cork log as well. So the natures first hide is now in the playpen!

Usually the issue is - everything made is dwarf sized and not big enough for syrians! Rodipet are an exception with different sized things. But the Rodipet syrian things are quite large for a dwarf, yes.

cloudy, which colour of egg hide did you get? Must have been very difficult to chose one.

Talking of ceramic hides - it's another reason to have a shelf or platform in the cage - a good place to put heavier ceramic items so they don't get tunnelled under if on the substrate.
