Default New Getzoo plastic wheel

Getzoo seem to have a new plastic wheel with a replaceable cork running track. The idea being you can buy the cork running tracks separately and replace them if they get manky.

The wheel only seems to be in one size though, unlike their wood wheels which come in various sizes.

Their sizing is also confusing. It's called a 27cm wheel but says the internal diameter is only 25.4cm (10"). Whereas the way Rodipet describe their sizes is the other way round. A 27cm wheel is 27cm internal diameter and the external diameter is bigger.

So not sure which hamster the Getzoo one is aimed at! The Germans go with big wheels for dwarf hamsters but no need for a wheel that big with a dwarf hamster really. It would probably be fine for a small syrian.

I find this interesting as it's a German wheel and I remember on German forums they were anti anything plastic. Or maybe that excluded certain plastics (I think wodent wheels were considered acceptable due to the type of plastic).

I guess the usp is - easily washable plastic but has a nice cork running track that's replaceable.

I'm not sure about the protruding plastic bars on the back though! I wonder if a hamster could get fur rub (although that's usually from spindles on smaller wheels).

Comes in three colours - pink, cream and green

On the actual Getzoo site they say the diameter is 27cm. I am wondering if the Amazon measurements are a mistake. From what I have seen in German hamster care, the only plastic they agree with is for a wheel.

They say this one is for Syrians.

Yes I noticed that too Cloudy. But the wood wheels say the same - the 27cm one says 25.4cm internal diameter for the cork one so I would think it would be the same if 27cm is the external width and they use external width for their other wheels.

They just don't quote the internal width on their website for that one (which they do on the others). Maybe because it's quite new? I think it's a good idea but not keen on the design! With the ridgy bits. I'm nor sure I like Rodipet's Heureka wheel leaning backwards either! It must be similar to running on a flying saucer - not entirely straight running.

I've never needed to replace the cork on a wheel if it's plastikoted. Usually the wheel has had it's day by the time the cork is suffering! I guess the idea is so you can wash the wheel.

But I've washed plastikoted wood wheels anyway.

Anyway it's another wheel! (also expensive for a plastic wheel) - not sure it's quite there though - but then no wheel is perfect.

We should go into production!

I do not understand why that wheel has such different measurements to the others. The others only have a few cm difference. How odd. I agree with you about the design. I do not like Rodipet's Heureka wheel either. I am not keen on the tilting.

Haha, it would be lovely to design hamster things. I am hopeless at anything like that.

Not seen that one before Serendipity. For me personally I dont like the look of it, and those groves on the back if they are level and not sloped just make it look easy for a hamster to climb up. For me I like plastic wheels as easy to maintain, so the cork part would be pointless, but I can see why they have done it and will appeal to others. But then, surely those people would just get a cork/wooden wheel.

Re rodipet heureka, yes the back bit does tilt, but the hamster still runs straight. Not like a flying saucer.

Yes I think their measurements are confusing but the measurements for that wheel are the same as for the wood 27cm wheel on their web page (inside and out). If you look at the 30cm wood wheel and cork wheel they have slightly different internal measurements because of the depth of the cork.

Luna good point! Climbing the struts! I don't like the look of it either really - I like the idea - a combination of a fully plastic, easily washable wheel, with a removable cork running surface - but it looks weird and the design is maybe a bit off too with those struts.

I'm guessing it's only in "27cm" either because it's very new and the only one available yet (and maybe they want to see how it sells) or it isn't strong/stable enough in plastic in any of the bigger sizes.

Have you got a Heureka wheel Luna? I imagined they would run in a straight line but at a slight kind of angle? A bit like a motorbike leaning into a corner if you get what I mean.

I'm not quite there with it - it would be nicer if it was upright! And screwed to the bars/came off the stand!

All of which is making the Nitangel wheel seem understandably popular, except I think it's an exotortionate price (in the Uk anyway) for a plastic wheel!

I may have a look to see if there's a way of screwing a Karlie wood wheel to the bars in the Plaza (which is what Pickle had but not in the Plaza) but can't imagine how unless it sits quite well forwards - and then it might as well be on its stand.

Did you looked on amazon.com rather than amazon uk for the niteangel to price it up?

Yes, I did a video on the heureka wheel, moonbeam was not running particularly straight on it at the time, possibly because she knew i was there, but she does normally run straight on it, in a normal position.
