Carolina Storm Wheel
I bought one of these ages ago to see what they were like as popular at the time. Been using it in the playpen for a few years.
It was hard to find them in the Uk at the time so I ordered it direct from their site in the US and it was an expensive purchase at about £40 with the shipping.
Anyway I'm now using it in the new Syrian's cage, as the only working wheel I had to hand. So I thought I might look at buying another one.
And the reason I'm posting this is - it's unbelievable the shipping cost!
The wheel is $23.99
The shipping is $1000
A thousand and 23 dollars 99 for a wheel! No way! I'm guessing this is something to do with the pandemic as can't see how Brexit would affect shipping from the US.
Makes a Rodipet wheel seem very good value!
I believe there is or was a Uk seller of these on Facebook - not sure if there still is.
Anyway I was never that impressed with mine at first - it seemed a bit flimsy and got a bit squished out of shape in the box. But bent it back into shape and it's lasted well, even with just playpen use. All our Syrians loved it in the playpen so I hope the new one does too.
I wasn't too keen on the stand and pipework. It is height adjustable but not much and too heavy to sit on substrate.
It doesn't attach well to bars without flopping forwards. But I've found using the bar fixing plates for the silent runner makes it fit to the bars well!

Re: Carolina Storm Wheel
Have you looked at tic tac wheels? I think they are amazing. They look like they will last forever.

Re: Carolina Storm Wheel
Off to look at those Have you used one? I'm always really safety conscious with wheels - I don't think any of them are perfect - except maybe the Rodipet ones and they're more designed for tanks. But now I've found you can use the silent runner bar attachment plates with other wheels that opens up options.
I've just sent for a 28cm Trixie wheel from Amazon to have as a spare for the playpen as it seems hard to find wheels in stock right now at reasonable prices.

Re: Carolina Storm Wheel
Had a look. Expensive! They look good though. Also HUGE! 42cm high! And 36cm wide. Although the metal ones are 10". Shame they don't have a size in between.

Re: Carolina Storm Wheel
I have a 10 inch and 12 inch tic tac wheel. I have ordered a stand too. I got mine in the clearance. I think they look such good quality and are a brilliant design. I think they will last years.

Re: Carolina Storm Wheel
Thank you. That also makes a difference - quality and longevity. Which is the 12" I could only see the 36cm one?

Re: Carolina Storm Wheel
The best option Tic Tac Wheels has for Syrians outside of the large bucket wheels which are 13.5 inches in diameter are their 12"(actually 12.5 inch diameter) metal wheels - their regular bucket wheel doesn't quite meet what you'd really want for any Syrian as it's only 11.5 inches which doesn't quite cut it for any potential size of Syrian hamster. They come in some really beautiful colors too, ranging from neutral to pastels to even really nice bright bold colors!
The link is saying deep purple for some reason but I got it off the sage color which in my opinion is one of their nicest colors:
12" Metal Wheel SAGE | TicTacWheels1
They're definitely not cheap wheels by any means, but unlike other wheels they do have the significant advantage of not being a wheel a hamster could just chew and destroy.

This is what really appealed to me. Being metal they cannot be chewed. I have a yellow and pink one as they were in the sale.
