Default Cage improvments for a dwarf hamster

My hamster Pascal has settled in really well, hes not nervous anymore and has began to let me handle him more often hes a lot more confident now and it makes me so happy to see that hes not as jumpy as he used to be. The only problem is that I think hes a bit bored, ive included some pics of his setup, but he keeps switching betwee running on his wheel for a few minutes then doing laps around his cage. I'm not sure what other toys to give him.. You cant really tell from the pictures but theres a lot of bedding in his cage and he has made a few burrows. Does anyone have any ideas on how i can improve his home or any toy/ enrichment ideas? Ive also included a picture of Pascal just because I think hes very cute! (i cleaned all the poop from his sand after the picture haha)

Pascal is super cute!

I think that access to the wheel is awkward or maybe it just looks that way.
I'd either move it to where the carrot house is but facing the interior or get a wider container for the sand and place the wheel inside of it while keeping it in the same place.

You could make it more interesting by adding a level in the shape of a free standing platform with a 55cm Trixie bendy bridge or any suitable ramp leading up to it.

Maybe add some forage sprays such as millet or flax and like Ria says maybe add a platform, then you could put the teddy hide up on that and fill the underneath with more bedding so your hamster can still burrow under there or put something else under it.

Agree - moving the wheel to the far end facing in would be a good idea - then he has space to jump out and flop on the substrate

At the moment the position of the large sand bath and wheel kind of separates the two ends of the cage. If the wheel wasn't there it would give space to run the whole length of the cage - I'd probably put that nice tunnel flat on the substrate where the wheel is now.

Also adding a low platform at the end opposite to the carrot house would be good. The other items could stay where they are underneath it. Ramp access to a platform can be tricky (and needs to be very secure and stable). Bendy bridges just sink in the substrate.

Alternatively maybe a labyrinth house instead at that end - which makes a kind of platform with it's flat roof. They love those. It would mean slightly moving/rearranging the hides at that end, but one could sit on the house roof.
