Default Sand from the beach?

I live very close to a beach and therefore was just wondering if it was a possibility. I haven't found a sand that I like so not really sure was to what to do.

Would treating the sand via baking & sifting work to disinfect it?

There have been other people that asked this question in the past, and the answer remains the same - absolutely not. It just isn't safe for a variety of reasons, including things like pathogens and parasites, which we're not completely capable of getting rid of through the bake and sift method.

Stick to storebought play sand and don't touch the stuff from the beach, and you'll not have the major safety issues that come with beach sand!

The salt from the seawater would worry me as well.

I'm just wondering how corporations would do it, I suppose. What are their cleaning methods and how do they source their sand?

From quarries i suppose. I can imagine it's a lengthy process of of washing, removing stuff that shouldn't be in, grinding, drying.

I'd like to see something like that. The process isn't widely advertised with pet sands, as far as I've seen, and I'd like to understand the process to trust it a bit more.

You could write to the manufacturer of a petsand brand for more information. It's not something i've ever thought about because i haven't had any issues with the sand i use.
