And then the real fun starts! Creating a hamster's world can take days of setting it up, then changing it again, then waking up in the middle of the night with that brilliant idea that has to be tried out immediately in case it's forgotten by the morning, then you suddenly drop what you're doing and rush to the shops because your future hamster absolutely needs a carrot house and they could be sold out by tomorrow. This furry little creature is going to become a big part of your life. You'll see.

Aww, thank you Ria. That is so lovely. I am 100% sure the little one will be a huge part of my life. It helps me to read such lovely posts like this.

Re: Hemp matts
You can expect your hammie to be scared at first and hide away quite a bit (depending but that's usually the case) which can be frustrating and patience is needed! It takes a good two weeks for them to fully settle in a cage then suddenly they get more confident and active. During that time they scent mark everything in the cage, get to know their territory etc, and decide where to build their nest. So best not to change anything or clean out in that first two weeks. Taming can still start by just talking to your hamster through the cage so they get familiar with your voice and scent.

Thank you for the tips. I am in no rush to bond.
