Even without baking soda added they can still have other odor control ingredients added(zeolite etc - also unsafe), though I have seen Small Pet Select wood pellets which would be a good choice if you really wanted to bother with a pelleted option in the bottom of the cage. It's not necessary though and you could spend the extra money on much better things!

ErinsAnimals does have some good ideas at times, but take everything with a grain of salt from any youtuber etc - even if they're popular they can absolutely make mistakes or do unsafe things, questionable things, etc!
Thanks that is good to know, I will absolutely stay clear of soil. I didnt intend on using some anyways. I will probably not do the pellets either, I will spotclean regulary and do a bigger cage clean when needed, ofc saving 1/3 of the bedding for familiar smell asnot to stress the hamster out. I will rather use my money on some boredom breakers!

The bit about the baking soda is interesting, because the youtuber in question recomended in one of her videos to sprinkle a teaspoon of it into paper bedding for odor controll. which I thought was weird and could not be good for the hamster.

I absolutely take what she sais with a grain of salt, and when I mention her in my post here I do not mean to contest any of your advice with her videos, and hope I dont come across that way. I am just giving a source to where I have heard of the things I ask about. It seems she should be more carefull when giving out advice since some of her care is outright dangerous. example: the soil cage and baking soda

I am just trying to learn as much as I can in a span 5-6 weeks when my hamster will be ready to move in ith us, and I find videos extremely helpfull in doing so. much has changed since I owned hamsters 7-8 years ago and I would like to stay up to date in the latest recomended care. If you have any resources like other youtubers care videos you would like to recomend I am for checking it out

He ignored it anyway, probably because he was allowed to dig it up, unlike my plants he got lifted out of.
I see, so her soil was probably filled with aditives aswell.. not good!

coco fibre is horrible, its never right, always either too dusty or too moist. I have used it alot with snails and as a laybox for my gecko. But she has never produced any eggs so I removed it as I found it to be a hassle. she can pop them in her moist cave if she ever decides to produce some.

haha, awww! He sounds like he was a mischievous little fella! Pets can be much like kids like that, always wanting to do the stuff they arent allowed to xD

You said you would be interested in youtubers who have good hamster care. I watch Victoria Rachael. I think her hamster care is amazing. I have learned a lot from her.
