Trixie silent wheel?
I have a quest: find a 28cm wheel for my soon to be syrian family member!
After searching for the silent runner, silent spinner and other recomended wheels I realized those are not to find in that size here in Norway. But I did find a wheel called "Trixie silent wheel" , its big enough, seems like a popular wheel on amazon (the place I often go to look at reviews), available in Norway and it is the right size.
I tried searching the forum before making this post but I found nothing on it. You see, my consern is the ridges inside the wheel. Wont they hurt the little hammies feet?
picture of the wheel:
TIA

Re: Trixie silent wheel?
The wheel is fine and the ridges look exaggerated in the photo but the wheel is not silent because it doesn't have ball bearings. Here's a photo of the ridges.
Can you get the Niteangel wheels in Norway? They do plastic wheels in different sizes. They are from the US and shipping is very expensive to the UK.
A wooden Trixie wheel is quieter but would need plastikoting.

Re: Trixie silent wheel?
I find that trixie wheel quiet and more than tolerable if you place it on a ledge or hard surface rather than attach it to the bars. The only noise I hear from both mine is the patter of little feet. If it gets a squeak, I just put some olive oil on the spindle
It is a very popular wheel and has been on this forum for a number of years.
The wooden trixie wheel I have found varies in quality ( wobbly, sharp wood pieces) and not silent. It also isn't height adjustable.

Re: Trixie silent wheel?
Thanks for replying both of you.
Ria.p: I looked for the Niteangel wheel on amazon but could not find it, it is not sold here in Norway. The ridges look better in your pic for sure. I think I might just try the trixie wheel, and see if it is quiet on the stand.
ametyyst_ice: I will try the Trixie wheel! If I find it noisy I can always buy one with ball bearings.

Re: Trixie silent wheel?
I’ve recently upgraded to the 28cm Trixie wheel for our Syrian and he’s loving it ours is attached to the cage bars and become a little noisy after the first week so I used a little veg oil which worked really well.

I just checked on Amazon again for the wheel and the cheapest I can get it is paying 38 GBP in shipping and import fees, while the wheel itself costs 25 GBP. Its not that I cant afford it, its just I really dont want to pay that much for a hamster wheel before trying something more local

Re: Trixie silent wheel?
Not sure if you are aware that you can't chose the colour as they are dispatched randomly. I always order two in case i get a pink one (don't like pink but the new pink is more of a peach) and have to send it back. I've been lucky lately and received only green and turquoise ones.
I have a dwarf in the bedroom and she's on the 9in Silent Runner, ironically she makes a racket with her nibble stick!!
I'm quite curious to hear your verdict on the Trixie wheel -
silent or not silent.
