Default Where to get Hamster supplies?

hi, everyone. i live in the UK and so already have limited options in regards to caging & accessories.

i am planning on getting a cage with a completely natural theme - coconut fibre, sand, paper bedding, sprays, etc. was just wondering where people got this stuff from? i've found a lot on etsy in regards to coconut fibre and sprays, however im struggling for things like bendy bridges, hides, etc.

im quite limited to trixie products, but they are SO hit and miss and sometimes downright unethical/unsuitable for hamsters. is there any alternatives to trixie? i saw nite angel looking good but i cant find it in UK.

Niteangel don't currently sell the hamster items in the UK- you can order from USA Amazon and pay customs, but works out rather expensive.

check out hopes healthy treats - highly recommend her, she sells bridges, hides, lots of natural items.
Hope's Healthy Treats – Hope's Healthy Treats

Shop All | Clyde's Critters
for small bendy bridges- probably too small for syrians (depending how you want to use them)

highly recommend hamsterswelove on etsy for forage
HamstersWeLove | Etsy

A lot of people use Fitch First for paper bedding
Fitch First - Home page

A lot of people also use getzoo and rodipet - but they are based in germany
Hope that helps

I mostly use amazon, Wilko, and for millet spray and coconut fibre I use pets at home. There’s also zooplus which sometimes do great deals on certain things with free delivery over a certain amount but I personally haven’t used them. Heard a lot of people have though with good reviews.

I think in the UK we are quite lucky with supplies for natural themes. I go to small, independent pet shops and Porton Aquatics, also check out the bird (Pick n' Fly millets) and the reptile sections (cork logs).

Online it's Zooplus, Etsy, package pets, viovet, Rodipet and Amazon for degus shelves.

Garden centres for terracotta items, charity shops, Wilko for sand, The Range, kitchen shops, Aldi has sometimes interesting ceramics for hides, there's lots out there.

Got an Alaska for £15 off Gumtree today so well happy.

I agree, don't let cage peer pressure egt to you for what you may see on social media. Lots of natural products can be found in a variety of places. DIY stores and garden centres for pipes and terracotta for example.

Plus you dont have to make everything cost lots, my current foster dwarfs are liking their toilet tubes best!

Like Ria, I was able to pick up an alaska for £20 two weeks ago

Thanks guys.

I think it's just my area? There is absolutely nothing for about 80 miles (in terms of hamsters for adoption). I don't want to support P@H nor my local pet stores who use large scale breeders. The nearest hamsters for sale other than pet stores are from small, seemingly quite unethical breeders.

That being said, I can't find many hamster products at the best of times. On Facebook Marketplace, it's mainly bright coloured 6 inch wheels, flying saucers & this ball thing ? Looks horrific.

For the cage, I'm set on the PLATSA range as I don't have the tools to properly construct many IKEA DIY cages. I'm also not fond of barred cages as just a personal preference I guess. I'll keep my eyes peeled for cheaper barred ones (the closest one I found was in Exeter) just for a backup cage though.

I agree. There's lots of inexpensive stuff you can use in a natural theme using cardboard.
Pringle tubes are the 'in' thing in this house and one of my foster dwarfs loved her Ryvita house.

To be honest, I don’t know many peoples thoughts on this or how it works, as crazy as it may seem! Maybe look in pets at home, some have an adoption corner and being just after Christmas there may be some given as presents and now bored of. I know it’s still pets at home, but at least you’ll be adopting rather than buying from them.

I’ll add below links of all the things and places I got bits from.

Pets at home - coco coir
https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/p...bre-brick-650g

Pets at home - millet (they do loose millet in there which literally is £0.69 per 100g but can’t find online link)
https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/p...B&gclsrc=aw.ds

Amazon wheel (I also purchase “used-like new” so it was less than £10)
Trixie 61011 Rotating Ferris Wheel Hamsters, Plastic, ø28 cm, Assortment: Random Colors Trixie 61011 Rotating Ferris Wheel Hamsters, Plastic, o28 cm, Assortment: Random Colors : Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies

Kaytee clean and cosy (Comes in natural but will need 2x24l bags)
Kaytee Clean & Cozy Super Absorbent Paper Bedding for Cages, Hamster, Gerbil, Mice, Rabbit, Guinea Pig, 24.6 Litre, White Kaytee Clean & Cozy Super Absorbent Paper Bedding for Cages, Hamster, Gerbil, Mice, Rabbit, Guinea Pig, 24.6 Litre, White : Amazon.co.uk: Pet Supplies

Wilko - sand (reptile no calcium)

Range - play sand (will need to bake)

The Alaska cage I got off marketplace (for £20 also!) and aside from these things pretty much everything else I made things. For food I use Harry hamster food, and whimzees dog chews which I buy individually up a small pet shop. Sand bath is just a container, she has a jar, egg box, bridge (came with cage), I made a floating house and just some normal wood chews. You can even collect from outside some things like I’ve got pine cones but I’d recommend washing and baking. Her house I made out of toxic free pva glue and popsicle sticks and coated with plastikote (thank you Ria for the recommendation!). Toilet rolls, Pringle tubes, wax burners, all these types of things are fine and cheap.

Mine unfortunately doesn't. I've already checked about. However, there has been one person who posted less than a day ago with two Russian Dwarf hamsters that they separated due to fighting, and now getting rid of both. I won't be able to take on the pair, but if they still need a home in two weeks (when my cage comes), then I'll be fine with taking one of them in, even though I've been actively searching for a Syrian.

And thank you for those links! So far, I've purchased a 28cm Trixie wheel (£12 as there was a sale on Amazon right now), Trixie sand bath, a sieve for the sand bath, a willow tube, and a YUUGA bendy fence.

Currently, I am just looking for hamster foods. Are the Etsy ones worth it? They look super diverse, but I'm just worried about the nutrient levels and how balanced they really are.
