Question bin cage uk

i haven't had a hamster for a few years now. i've been debating about getting another because i'm quite lonely in my flat.

apologies that this question will have been asked so many times but: what is a suitable bin cage for a hamster in the uk? specifically, a syrian?

i've searched on tons of sites but i can't quite find one that looks a good size. i want to get it right because in the past i haven't had the biggest cage for them. any links to storage boxes would be great.

cheers

if you look from 1:24 those are all the bin cages I could find in the UK that are a decent size: Best UK Hamster Cages 2021 - YouTube

there are links in the description or the comments to where to buy them. Hope that helps.

The 145l really useful box from Wickes is a box i've converted into a hamster home for a Syrian before.

You'd need to mesh the lid and a window to give it enough ventilation. I also add back vents for airflow.

I'd say the 145l Really Useful Box as well - it's good for a Syrian as deeper than most floorspace wise. It might only be just over 80cm wide but it's about 60cm deep. Others have said it's one of the best ones to cut as well. Easier than most. Has a nice flat lid too.

Do you definitely want a bin cage because the Savic Plaza is a good cage for a Syrian too Costs more though. Although the manufacturers are selling it for 48, it's on at 35 from Asda (if they have them in stock). But there are two versions. The one linked below is clear (better for seeing the hamster through). The other one is white (and the Asda one is white).

Go Shopping - Really Useful Boxes - 145 litre Really Useful Box

Cagewise there's the Hamster Heaven or Sky (80cm by 50cm but has a nice big front door). Although technically smaller than the 145l bin,it has more useable space IMO - around the bars area and things can be attached to the bard or roof. Or - a better size, the Savic Plaza (100cm x 50cm and also has a nice big front door).

I prefer cages with big front doors - better for interaction with the hamster and taming.

Savic plaza is out of stock at PEts at Home though and quite a bit more expensive on Amazon.

A decent sized bin cage isn't a cheap option anyway. The box, mesh, cable ties, sandpaper and optional decorative tape soon adds up. Then of course one needs the tools to convert one into a hamster home.
The really useful boxes are easier to cut than the cheaper ones and its important to get a box with a flat lid.

I'd look for an Alaska cage for a Syrian. Not sure they are in stock on Zooplus but they come up on Gumtree.
