Default Has anyone used the Mcage Cage on Amazon?

It's hard to find on a search there. I can't find it by searching here either. I guess it's in another dimension usually, and just pops up here when conditions are right. Maybe it just got renamed or something.

I think it would be considered too small if i read the measurements correctly. Only 30cm/12inch high? If you had a syrian hamster, most need a 11 to 12 inch wheel so that would not fit.

Personally, I would be looking at something a bit bigger, minimum 80 x 60 cm and 50cm high if for a syrian. You can go lower if for a dwarf species, but I would still be looking for something around the 80 x 60 cm in length and width as a minimum.

Never seen this one before. It is definitely a dwarf hamster cage and of similar dimensions to the Duna Multy.

I think set up properly with deep substrate and proper furnishings it could work for a dwarf who doesn't want too much space.

Yes, you are on about the small Duna Multy Ria, which I along with a lot of other people would consider too small. The large Duna Mutly is a good size though.

Given the link is the American amazon, it think our OP is US based so cages would have to be what is available over there.

How DIY savvy are you?

Thanks. It's supposedly about 500 square feet, which I realize isn't huge, but it's way bigger than anything in the pet store.
I saw the cutest little dwarf hamster in the pet store today, and he was even out and looking around at 9 in the morning! If I'd had a cage to take him to, he'd be in it now, but no way would I put him in one of the small cages that were on sale there.
Aquariums large enough are too heavy for me. I may have to go ahead and work something out about that.

Yes, I'm in the USA. Sorry I haven't gotten my profile completed. I'll go do that next.

DIY--not much experience with that, although I'm thinking maybe I should try more new things, stretch my mind a little. Still, I want something that looks nice. The Mcage sort of does.

Hmm, I thought I posted an answer to this. I hope it doesn't show up after I post this one.

Yep, USA. Sorry, I only just now finished my profile.

The Mcage is about 500 square inches; I thought that was enough but then I'm just starting to learn. It's much bigger than anything at the pet store. I see what you mean about the height.

DIY--not much.

Got to learn to convert inches to centimeters and back. I wish we'd get into the metric system here.

Default What I decided to do

I decided to go with the 40 gallon aquarium. Plenty of room for anybody, no chewing, no climbing and falling, and no worries about escaping. I realized too that, since where I live it's very hot in the summer, there will be frequent cold drafts from the air conditioning, another reason to not have a wire cage.

It helped that the local Petco has a sale on the 40 gallons, $49.99 instead of, I think, $99.99. I just ordered one, in fear that it might go off sale tonight, or sell out. I should be able to pick it up tomorrow. It's heavy, one reason I wanted something else, but I've come up with some ideas for how to get it into the house, and should be able to manage that one way or another.

I'm feeling really good about this, since I don't entirely like keeping animals in cages, and giving them lots of room seems better.

So glad you got the enclosure all sorted! Saw you got the 40 gallon aquarium and visited Petco (I'm assuming Petco is like an American version of Pets at Home which we call PAH for short if you're not aware - is it the same company but under a different name in another country?)...

Calculated the specs as I was curious myself! Stands at 648 sq inch which is just above the minimum for hamsters. 4000cm2 (at 620 sq inch) is the recommended minimum now. 5000cm2 for females which is 775 sq inch.
