Default Need Help Finding A Safe Silicone

Hi there,

I was just wondering if anyone could help me find a safe silicone that I could use in my DIY hamster cage. There’s not any Aquarian silicone available near me or online that I can find.

I did find a solvent free silicone sealant however. If anyone knows if this is safe for use, please do tell me.

Thanks for the help!,
Luke

The main thing to remember is that it has to be 100% silicon - no additives etc. Even if you can find this you'll also have to cure it outside for a minimum of 24 hours. While silicon is completely non toxic once fully cured, during the curing process it does produce toxic fumes.

That being said, this information will only be minimally helpful if you're using any sort of acrylic rather than glass. Silicon doesn't bond to acrylic so if you tried to use it on acrylic to keep the acrylic secured it would just inevitably fall apart.

I found this one that claims it’s made completely of one component, link below. Do you think that it’s safe for use?
