I have wanted to do this for a while now, I took my most viewed video on my youtube channel and recreated it for free, using the recycling.
I noticed that on this forum we are often giving advice/help/ideas on how people can fill up their cages more without it costing a fortune.
I wanted to show that providing your hamster with enrichment did not have to cost a fortune; buy a good sized cage, wheel, safe bedding, food and sand and pretty much everything else can be done for free, apart from any vet bills. Your hamster will not know the difference, a tunnel is a tunnel to them, whether it cost £5 or was free.
The cost of the items in my original video 'Setting up the Savic Plaza' works out as follows:
2 x Trixie Shelf Platforms 2 x Â6.99
1 cork tunnel £4.99
1 wooden tunnel £3.49
1 coconut hide £5
1 Trixie Multi chamber hide £7.99
Water bottle approx £1.50
Food bowl £1.96
1 small bendy bridge £7.99
2 x larger bendy bridges 2 x £3.91
1 whicker tunnel £2.99
Total £57.71
These were bought from several places such as Amazon, Pets@home & Zooplus over a year/year and a half
The cost of the items in my recycling video were zero £'s.
To be honest it was a bit of a shock on how much it had cost to set up the cage originally, and those prices were from 2018-2019, so possibly cost even more these days. Admittedly, I did buy those items over several shops over about a year and a half, so it would have spread out the cost, but that just shows it can take time to accumulate/buy items for our pets.
