I have always found very few second hand detolfs on ebay and you can wait quite a while. I know they are £60 new, but at least they deliver! And that is cheaper than most good cages. Although I suppose they charge for delivery. I think most second hand ones you have to sort out delivery yourself and that can work out quite expensive.

I can't think of anything else similar - I looked into that myself once. A four foot fish tank is a good size but they can be hard to find second hand as well.

I know some people are a bit funny like that and would like it to go to someone who is using it for it's "intended" use, or do you think it would be ok to imply that it will be used as a hamster enclosure? Since a lot of people may not understand and will find it a bit stupid.
No because its none of their business what you're using it for. Once you've paid for it it yours.

Detolfs with meshed lids that have been used for hamster habitats do come up for £30/40 on Gumtree. I have seen them.

You can get 1.5m long aquariums and vivariums but prices vary a lot of course.

It really is a matter of looking until you get lucky and find what you want.

Ria I think she might have been asking more in regards to freecycle, where you can ask for items for free. Sometimes people put why they want it. I.e. craft items for after school activities or to make things for charity, that type of thing.

Oh i see. In that case it would be a good idea to mention that a free detolf would be used as a wonderful and spacious hamster home. Makes more sense than to use it for dust gathering ornaments and people may appreciate its new intended purpose.
