Default Plaza knock down, bad experiences?

I bought two plaza knock down at sale. I did set the cage and put the hamster in today. I had two cage on top of eachother. Suddenly the bottom cage did fell apart with the hamster inside. After I did get it and looked at it, I feel the cage is very cheep made.

Are there anyone else there have bad experince with it?

I think the savic plaza is not as strongly made as say the Alaska Cage, but the top part is plastic and metal, not all metal like the alaska top part is .

You really need shelving or some sort of support in between 2 cages like that, by the time you add bedding in etc, there is no way the cage below will be able to support it, They weren't built to be stacked directly on top of each other.

Hope you hamster is ok.

Yes, she is ok.
I just get a little shocked. As the cage do cost a lot off money when not on sale, I`m very glad i did buy it at sale. The plastic parts are very cheap.I did have big thoughts about this cage, a little dissapointing.

Honestly, I felt the same as you when I got it, but it is a good cage and probably more sturdy than you think (my opinion improved over time) just not strong enough to stack them on top of each other directly

If the plaza is anything like the zeno(not a hamster cage but a rat cage by the same company), I'd imagine it's designed to be relatively lightweight - durable and made well, but they're not going to take being stacked directly on top of each other or having significant weight put on them unfortunately.

I personally think as long as these cages are used with caution they're still an excellent choice. I'd expect a lot of other cages on the market wouldn't handle being stacked directly on top of each other very well though, just probably not having such a serious and obvious result!

My plan was to have the alexander cage on top off the plaza knock down, but I think I have to change that idea

They can't be stacked as it's a knock down cage so designed to come apart and store flat/easily - rather than have a sturdy one piece cage top. My first plaza was fine. My second arrived with a broken plastic part so was useless (got it replaced though).

There are pros and cons to it. I also prefer a solid one piece cage top like the savic cages or alexander. But the plaza is a good shape and size for a syrian and the biggest pro is the front opening door.

But no it is not strong enough to stack another cage on top. I got a console table (shelf at the bottom) to stack two - one on the bottom shelf, one on the table top.

One of the slight cons is if fitting different shelves - the plastic corner pieces are slightly curved inside. For wood shelves I had to cut a little triangle piece off the corners so the shelves fitted.

The Alexander is a great cage. It also has some pros and cons. You're limited where you can put a syrian sized wheel and then can't use all the shelves. Plus it has the small doors and hard to access through the top with shelves in place.

I don't think there is a perfect cage. It would help if spares were available for the plaza.

After the cage did fell apart, I do have a little piece off it I dont know where belong. I have these choises: The plaza, alexander cage and the criceti 100 cage.
I`m a little dissapointed as I looked forward to set some shelfes in the plaza cage.

It is certainly not as easy a cage as one with a solid top. But once built and set up it's good. The green platform it comes with is ok but takes up a lot of space with it's ladder. I got a wood shelf for it and cut it to size. At the same time, cut a little piece off the two corners so it fitted. You need a small saw (or a man with a saw!).

I don't think I would stack any 100 cm cages on top of each other really - they need a shelf in between or something.

The Alexander is a great cage but I think it depends on the personality of the hamster. I had the Barney cage (which has the same small front doors) and that was fine for one Syrian who was quite gregarious and would come and sit at the door to come out. But our current syrian is more docile and it's hard getting them out or doing anything in the cage with the small front doors.

So although the plaza isn't perfect, it's about the only 100cm cage with a big front door.

The two Syrian hamster I have, do have a nervous personality. The new hamster do have the plaza cage. I have one more plaza cage in a box.
