Question Is wood with bark on it safe?

Hi! I ordered two large branches for my syrian hamster Bertha's cage which arrived today. The cholla piece is perfect, but the grapevine piece still has a lot of bark on it and I wanted to make sure that's safe before putting it in her cage. I've managed to pick off a good deal of it (it was quite satisfying, honestly!) but it would be a pain to pry it all off.

If it's not safe, I can give the piece to my brother, who has a crested gecko in need of more climbing opportunities, so it won't be a huge loss if I can't use it. I feel like it's probably safe, but I always like to seek others opinions if I'm not sure when it comes to my hamsters

Grapevines are safe so the bark will be safe. My main concern with branches are in case there are any particularly sharp bits they can injure themselves on (or poke their eyes on). Although I have never had an issue yet. So just check it over for particularly sharp protruding bits. I am not sure about Cholla - not sure what it is. Cypher may know.

You could always cook it for approx 20-30 mins at approx 90C to be on safe side if you wanted.

Thank you! I'm confident the cholla is safe, I just wasn't sure about the bark on the grapevine. I'll be sure to look it over closely and sand it if need be.
