Question DIY bedding

Hi all!
A couple days ago, I went to my nearest pet shop, and they had no suitable bedding in store. This is a big problem - my weekly spot clean is coming up.
So I decided to diy bedding.
Is there any way I could make bedding without spending tons of time or money?
I need enough for my hamsters hide and his favourite potty spot.
I have heard that shredded tissue paper works, but I think that may not be very good.
Any info would be highly appreciated!

Amazon sells Kaytee clean and cozy and the 85l bag goes a long way.

I don't think homemade bedding would be as good and absorbent but if you only need a small quantity, plain white unscented toilet paper torn into strips makes good nesting material.

As for the toilet spot. You could place a corner toilet there and fill it with sand then scoop the lumps (pee) out.
