Hazel and her cage

I am going to add more bedding, I did think there was enough but it all got smooshed down under the toys. She has a sand bath in the back corner as well
I have also built her a bunch of homemade boredom breakers with food and treats stuck to toilet rolls, one she has now which is the ball one with treats inside. Just need some twine to hang the others.
We've got a shelf coming to fit into one corner as well so it's not fully built up yet.
I don't want to mess with her cage right now, I know it still needs some working on it but I just want to give her a couple days to settle in

Re: Hazel and her cage
That looks a lovely set up and Hazel is cute!
What kind of cage is it? I like the glass bottom and wire top design.

Hi thanks, someone told me it was called Little Friends Dorchester. I wasn't 100% sure as we actually got it given from someone we know 😊 we are planning to keep her in here until she grows up a bit more and then upgrade her to something hopefully around 120cm if we can find a good hamster cage that size. We'd like to get a dwarf some day as well haha (alone because every group I've joined says no to keeping together) that's changed since I kept dwarfs! But if its recommended then we will house a small dwarf in here once Hazel upgrades. I've been hunting around but to get something bigger than 100cm it looks like itll be a modified rabbit cage but I'm not very DIY so I'd prefer to buy one

Re: Hazel and her cage
I just looked it up. That would be a great cage for a dwarf once you decide to upgrade Hazel.
I think the large living world green eco habitat is quite big or the borneo xl cage.

Great, I'll have a look at those. Good to. Know we can keep this cage for a dwarf, I really love it as a cage but I know Hazel will appreciate some more room as she gets bigger.
I've changed it a bit as my shelves came in the post today, somewhere to pop her food and things so I can add more bedding into the bottom. It looks a lot more busy in there now but I hope she likes the extra areas to roam about 😊

That looks fab! Shelves really do make a difference and hamsters love them.

Re: Hazel and her cage
Thank you, I've tried making it enriching as possible for her. I want to upgrade her to something bigger soon and keep this for a dwarf hamster. I know it's not the biggest cage but do you think it will be OK for a while while we save up and look for an upgrade for her? I've put new shelves in, put in a tonne more bedding like suggested but it's still more of this, more of that, upgrade her now

Re: Hazel and her cage
I think she will be perfectly fine in this cage until you save up for an upgrade. It is a good sized cage with plenty of enrichment and deep substrate so don't in any way feel bad about not being able to immediately provide the cage you want for her.
You can give her out of cage time as well if she likes it.
