Are all grasses safe?
Hi everyone, I want to create a natural themed cage with lots of branches, sprays and grasses for my mice. We have lots of long grasses in our garden and I was hoping to just pick them and dump them in the cage instead of buying grasses online. Since it's winter, most of the grasses are dry and dead so it would be a good time to pick them. We don't use any fertilizers/pesticides/etc in our garden and neither do our neighbours so our plants are pretty safe, I was just wondering if there were any grasses that are poisonous and need to be avoided?

I would hesitate to use random garden grass even if you don't use pesticides and such. It may not be a variety that should really be eaten.
What you could do instead is buy seed for plant species known to be safe, grow those yourself, and then give edible parts of those plants to your mice. I wouldn't grow plants inside the cage though even with pesticide free etc soil though.

Re: Are all grasses safe?
Thanks, I ended up ordering Rosewood Naturals Harvest Festival from RatRations and it arrived today. Lots of lovely grasses and sprays which I'm sure they'll love, without the risk of picking from outdoors!
