Default Gap in platform - can syrian get stuck?

Hello,

I have made Yasmin a new cage. She is syrian, 150 grams, 3 months old. I bought Getzoo platform to hold her wheel (getzoo ecketage 22x22x14cm) and I have noticed there is 2,5 cm gap between the legs of the platform and sides of the cage.

Do you think syrian can get stuck in this?

Thank you,
Tereza

I don't think so. Yes it is narrow but there is substrate underneath so it's not a rigid gap. IF they did get stuck it would be easy enough to remove the platform or they could chew through the wood leg. You could maybe put something in front of that leg to block the gap and deter them trying to squeeze through - eg a hidey place.

I think you should be ok, but if worried, just put more bedding in there or something in front of it. Or do you have space in the cage at the other side of the platform, so you can move the platform slightly so it makes the gap bigger?

Or you could block up the gap completely with a piece of wood eg.

Thank you for your anwers. I feel much calmer now. I still think that just to be sure, I will move it to make a gap bigger, as Luna suggests ah, there are so many things to keep in mind when making a safe hamsters home!

There certainly are! Access is a big thing as well - making sure they can actually reach things (water bottle) and get up onto platforms easily. Ramps being secure etc. One thing I have learned is hamsters don't like wobbly insecure ramps! Also if they fall down they can hurt the hamster or land on them. I use a cork log/tunnel as a ramp sometimes. Sat on the substrate partly nder a shelf. They can climb up the side or run through it as a tunnel.
