Changing sleeping place
Hello,
My Little Mo has taken to sleeping in her Puzzle playground creation - she's been sleeping in this for quite a while now (all over winter) and seems to like it, but it's really hard to clean out as I have to dismantle the whole thing to get the dirty bedding out and then put it together again - which is very frustrating when the whole thing breaks and you have to start again!
So...I have bought something that I would like to try as her bed - trouble is, I dont know how to introduce it.
There isnt room to add it into her cage as well as the puzzle playground, and there isnt any point as she would just continue to use the PP as her bed..
So the only option I can see is to remove the puzzle playground and replace it with the replacement bed - giving her no option but to try it out - but this feels quite cruel! I'd worry about her being unhappy and unsettled.
What do you guys think? TBH I dont see any other option but to try it this way....
I got her this btw Cages : Ferplast Hamster Lab Attachment : www.EquineCanineFeline.com the place to buy all your Pet Products, Horse Products and Pet Supplies online
She has a wooden house in her cage that she uses as a platform to sit on but HATES sleeping in it...she prefers tighter spaces where she feels enclosed, and even better if tubes are attached

Re: Changing sleeping place
Hi Shazzy. What about trying one of these:-
Houses : Cyber Hamster Sky House : www.EquineCanineFeline.com the place to buy all your Pet Products, Horse Products and Pet Supplies online
as it has a tube but the whole thing only comes in about 3 bits, and the main 'house' bit is solid for easier for cleaning. i had to take Boris' Snuggle pouch away from him as he managed to scratch a big hole in it and he got stuck between the lining and the outer material, and he ALWAYS slept in it, but he soon found somewhere else to sleep and he didn't seem too unhappy about it either! He has taken to making his own nest now in the corner of his cage and seems just as contented.

Re: Changing sleeping place
Hiya Hope,
I already have one of those Cyber houses Mo slept in the top bit for a while, but then she started chewing the end of the tube which sticks into the top bit (she went through every tube end connector that I had!!) and I found it got a bit sweaty in there as she blocked the small airholes up with bedding so had to change it.
Thanks for suggestion though
I'll just bung some of her old bedding in the new ferplast lab thingy and hope she gets the message!!

Re: Changing sleeping place
Ah yes chewing! I think I must be very lucky with Boris as he dosen't really seem to chew on anything - not even a carboard toilet roll, one will last him ages and I only have to throw it away when it gets a bit old!
I'm sure that Little Mo will be fine, she will find somewhere to sleep even if its not really where you expect her to!

Re: Changing sleeping place
I know I did with Boris! He looked at me like 'Mummy - Where's my bed gone?' But I did it on a cage clean so things were put back a bit differently anyway. He soon settled himself - he is quite liking a square tissue box at the moment, but his 'proper' bed is his little nest! Bless him!

Re: Changing sleeping place
I dont think she would mind too much if you changed her house. Who knows, maybe she will like the new one better even. I have three house options and my hamster chose the biggest and most dark one, where he can totally hide and load himself with handkerchiefs. Just try the new one and if you see your hamster doesnt like it, you can bring back the old one.

Re: Changing sleeping place
One of my boys started sleeping in his puzzle playground creation - I just made sure that it didn't have a 'floor' bit, so I could just lift it off if I needed to clean it. Luckily he is quite clean and if he's not sleeping in it he will use it to stand on to get to the bars

You see Mo has to be totally enclosed - she hates houses without a bottom because they can tip up easily. I'll have to take a pic of the puzzle thingy to show where she was sleeping - it's like a little fortress!!
But anyway..last night I took the plunge and removed her puzzle playground, replacing it with the ferplast lab domey thing. Went to bed worrying that she'd be looking frantically for somewhere to sleep...
This morning I went and had a peek and she was sleeping in the new bed Not that I could see her as she'd carefully sculptured the tissue paper into a dome - heard rustling though!
Let's see how successful this sleeping place is..

Re: Changing sleeping place
Yay! Glad Little Mo has found a new bed, bless her. I can just imagine her all snuggled up! Boris also 'sculpts' his bedding so that I can't see him when he is nunites!
