Default Bin cage query

Hello

Sorry if this has been asked a million times before. And I'm probably over thinking it.

I am in the process of making a bin cage out of a large ikea samla. I have a query re floor space. I plan on having a third of the bin, partitioned off so that I can place a decent amount of substrate for tunneling / digging. The area will be accessed via a ramp roof some sort.

My question, will this eat in to the total floor space area or am I ok to go ahead with my plan.

Thanks

Hello

I can’t remember what the size of that bin is? How do you plan to have it partitioned off?

I sometimes do that with my bin cages to create a burrowing area with deep substrate and a more shallow play area for wheels, sand bath etc.
As far as i'm concerned this kind of set up does not affect the overall floor space.
A tip:
Please make sure that you add enough ventilation by meshing the lid, which i do in two panels, a front window so the hamster can see out and back or side air vents.
