Ok I must be mixing up with someone else who got an Eco habitat and couldn't get on with it and switched to a cage

I'm guessing you're looking at that and the Marrakesch? Depending on the hamster I think I'd go with the marrackesch or even the maxi duna multy - which is basically the same size but a bit deeper and with curved sides! The Eco Habitat does give a huge floor area but the other two are maybe easier for access with top access.

I LOVE this cage.

It is very useful, and I've never had a problem with it. I do Plastikote the bottom and sides- just so that they don't smell and absorb urine.

Other than that, it is a lovely cage.

ok, i'm looking at hemp mats and going slightly insane, can someone help me decide whether to get the 5mm or 10mm thickness. Do you think 5mm would be ok, or best to go for 10mm.

I find the thinner ones much easier to cut The thick ones are a pig to cut. If it was me I'd go with two 5mm layers - but that might work out a bit expensive. On the other hand rodipet make a 120cm sized one to fit one of their cages, which is quite large. I've had theirs and the Hugro ones and the Hugro ones are a pig to cut. But they are thicker. So - actually yes the thicker ones are probably better (and more cushioned) than two thinner ones.

Sorry that probably wasn't much help! But a couple of Hugro 100 x 40cm ones would probably do it? Without much cutting.

Lol Serendipity, I may go with 5mm as I am not the strongest person these days. I think I saw a company on Amazon that sold 2 x 5mm mats. Seriously made my self dizzy with all this research and buying. Thanks for all your help.

I use the type of kitchen scissors meant to cut poultry to cut all sorts of stuff but chickens.
Never tried it on a thick hemp mat but may well work.
