Default Pair of Robos.

Hello Everyone,

I have recently got a Male robo pair as a lost my little boy a couple of weeks ago. They are litter mates and in an Alaska with two water bottles and two food bowls. What else should I get 2 of? And what is the best food for young robos?

I am willing to get a second if they don’t get along...

I hope they do

I think just give them lots of options for their own space if they want, hiding places and food and drink spots.

Look forward to see them both

This is Fredrick and Albert, and their cage, let me know if there is anything else you would recommend taking out or putting in. The cage is the Alaska cage so 80cmx50cm approximately. I’ve bought excel burgess hamster and Gerbal food but I’m unsure whether this is the best I can buy. Sorry for the rubbish photos, I’m letting them settle before I get them out

It's hard to see exactly what's in the cage but I would definitely give them more substrate to burrow in, with a cage like the alsaka it's normal to fill the base with substrate. Robos do need sand too, chinchilla sand, not dust, to bathe in, a good deep dish as large an area as you can fit into your set up without taking up too much space.
I wouldn't recommend that food, it's very low in protein & you need a good seed/muesli type mix they can forage for.
There aren't really any good dwarf hamster foods available in the UK but you can get a good mix from Rodipet. It's still a little low in protein for a young hamster but you an add things like mealworms & chicken to boost it a bit.

Thank you for letting me know! I’ve just gone out and bought another 65lt to fill it. With my old hamster I used to get rid of all the bedding and replace it fairly often, should I do the same with this much substrate? How often do you do a full clean? And do you remove it all?

I also have sand, it’s Tiny friends farm chinchilla sand, do you have a photo of your sand bath? I had a metal bowl sort of sand bath but I’m wondering whether it’s better getting something different. I tried to look for that hamster food but it seems very pricey? I looked at Harry hamster which is higher in protein, would this be any good? If not I will get the rodipet.

I never do full cage cleans, if you find where they pee spot clean that as often as needed but otherwise just clean small areas as & when needed, probably not more than a third of the cage every month or two, mine pee in their wheels so the area around the wheel tends to need cleaning a bit more often. Cleaning too much & removing their scent is very stressful for them.
Any dish is ok for sand, I use all sorts, but be sure it's big enough for both to dig around in together.
Personally I wouldn't feed Harry Hamster to any dwarf species, some people do but it's far from ideal.

Thank you! I’ll get some rodipet ordered. Would something like a small metal dog food bowl work for a sand bath? And with the rodipet would it be this food? https://www.rodipet.co.uk/pet-foods/...che=1592248113
