Joining 2 cages - Alaska

I have Polo in an Alaska and I also have another empty unused Alaska in the loft, I am thinking of joining them together along the long side.
Because of the construction of the sides which are in panels this wouldn’t be hard, however she is a chewer and I know the plastic tray edges where they meet would be destroyed, any ideas, I am thinking a long ‘n’ shaped construction of wood safe wood over it may work, but putting it out to the hamster mind hive for ideas, ideally I would like uninterrupted floor space rather than a tunnel.
