Default Modifying a thickets cage

Hi all, I'm relatively new to this forum, and to hamsters in general, really! Anyway, I've managed to get my hands on a thickets chinchilla cage, and I'm looking at modifying it for my Syrian, Pickles. My husband is super handy, and will put in some extra levels, ramps, etc. As well as making the base deeper for substrate.

Has anyone done this, or something similar, before? I'd love some tips, or better still... Pictures! I've (hopefully) attached a pic of the cage for reference..

Thanks in advance!
