What temperature should the room be?
Hi,
I was wondering what temperature the rooms need to be for a Syrian so that they don’t go into torpor or hibernate anything like that as I know it’s not very successful in captivity so I wanted to know if keeping to room at room temperature (in England) is suitable of if the room should have a least some heat source at all times, also what temperature is too high?

Re: What temperature should the room be?
If the room is comfortable for you then it will be fine for a hamster. Ours are kept in the house and they are in a room with some variations depending on when the heating comes off and on. They do adapt and will build more open nests in summer and large hideaway nests when the weather is cooler. Too high is more dangerous as harder to control so we don't like them to get above 23-24C

Re: What temperature should the room be?
About 20 degrees room temp is usually ok - like you set your central heating for. I find anything between 16 and 20 degrees is ok but under 16 degrees can be a bit cold. At this time of year in the Uk it's usually ok. We have a bit of heating on in the evening. If a frost or freezing temperatures is forecast overnight I have a little heater on a thermostat set to come on for a couple of hours in the night.
At the moment I have an oil filled radiator on all the time set at 18 degrees and most of the time it doesn't come on because it isn't cold enough to kick in.
