Looking for recommendation: Hamster Playpen

I have a young syrian (Nutmeg) who so far has seemed to enjoy climbing over us and let's us stroke him when he's climbing on us, but not always in his cage.

He also enjoys running down some long tubes, but then he ran out and hid behind the fish tank (oops!). He is fast!

So I was looking at those hamster metal playpens online, we're looking for something where we can interact with him and also just watch him, and set up a bunch of things for him to climb over. Any recommendations? They have pretty mixed reviews online.

If by metal playpen you mean something like this:

I don't recommend them as they can climb out of them pretty easy, some people do turn them over with the base as a roof, but then you can't interact with them as much, which you said you wanted to do.

I would look at using a big cardboard or plastic box, kids ball playpen type thing (lots of people seem to use these- just be careful of chewing)

Or, create a safe area that can be sectioned off with cardboard or something similar.

I bought two lots of the Trixie ones but wouldn't recommend them. Fiddly to set up and a determined hamster can easily climb out. My Syrian didn't like it anyway so i hamster proofed a room for free roaming.
