Default Wire cage repairs?

Good morning

My Syrian Peggy has chewed the bars so much in one particular spot of her Barney cage that one of the horizontal bars has snapped where it joins the thicker vertical bars. I've wedged a flattened bendy bridge over the broken part but she's a persistent little thing and if she manages to dislodged my temporary barrier she will be able to get to the bars again. I'm worried she will hurt herself on the broken part but I don't know how to fix it.

I don't have a soldering iron but could probably get one as a last resort, but I don't know if that would even be strong enough.

Does anyone have any experience in repairing broken bars who can give me tips. Or failing that a more permanent way of fixing the bridge in place. I thought of using zip ties as the bridge has metal loops at either end that I could feed them through, but she will probably only chew through these. If I tried and she did, would it be dangerous?

Just so you know, she has plenty of chew toys in her cage so she isn't lacking other things to chew on besides her cage, she just prefers it. For some unfathomable reason.

Thank you

I'm not sure if or how you can repair cage bars tbh as you need to be sure nothing you use is toxic if chewed, could you possibly mesh that area of the cage, make sure there are no sharp mesh edges anywhere you ham could get to them though.

i'm just thinking about what the rescue does on those small pet carriers when they get chewed - they put one of those wooden chews across it

something like one of these

could you angle a few of these across the gap? you would have to keep an eye on it and see how long it lasts - but may work until you have a more permanent solution

or some wooden pegs

Thanks for replying

I put one of those chews on to deter her but it didn't work. I'll see how it goes with the bendy bridge there. Fingers crossed, because I cannot afford £50 on a new cage...

Where in the cage is the chewed bar?

If its low you could put a house in front or attach the wheel if higher up.

I'd get her a large Whimzee to chew on and mesh the affected area of the cage but with any sharp edges filed down and attached to the outside of the cage out of reach. Wilko sells a roll of 13mmx13mm mesh for £4. Cable ties should work, tightened as much as possible and closed on the outside.
