Aubiose is fine and especially for long haired syrians as it does not tangle much. I don't think it is so widely available though and also it's a large bale to store. It is not always suitable for people with allergies and can be more dusty than some beddings. In my experience is is not quite as absorbent either and smell control less good. But yes we still use it

Re: Megazorb and Aubiose
Thanks souffle. I was beginning to wonder if I'd missed something and it was a big no-no now.

I haven't found anything in the softer bed range that isn't dusty to some extent to be honest. Even the teabag offcut stuff has some tea dust in it!!

I've got a bale of that tea bag stuff, I think its great for nesting, mines has not been very dusty, care fresh on the other hand....

Re: Megazorb and Aubiose
Also just a warning for people with long haired males - I used to use Megazorb for Winston, but he started itching which lead to his fur thinning. I went to the vets which said he has Cushings but it's been around 4-5 months now and his fur is better ever since I changed his bedding. I figure it's the dust which gets trapped inside his fur due to it being long, which causes him to scratch a lot, which causes thinning. I changed his bedding to ripped up toilet roll and he's much better ever since

Re: Megazorb and Aubiose
I thought Magazorb was good I now think it is not good.
because I can not see where the pee is and it makes it really hard to sport clean.
tred sniffing that doesn't work so I am going to try something else.
I am hopping the next bedding does have a funny smell like this has.
My bad does not smell the bedding does!

Re: Megazorb and Aubiose
I still use megazorb for all my current hamsters (SH) and they are all comfortable. The bagging has changed to a plastic sack which is more waterproof and helps with storage.
It does have a slightly 'different' odour from other substrates which can take getting used to but it is still mt preferred type

Re: Megazorb and Aubiose
I've been looking into substrates lately, since carefresh, the substrate I've been using for my past syrians, is getting pricey. £4 for a fairly thin layer in their current cage is a bit ridiculous! I've been wanting to provide enough substrate for my hamsters to dig around in, since they seem pretty keen, so, buying in bulk it is! I'm concerned about the dust, so I'll be going for aubiose, perhaps mixing in something like megazorb for areas in need of more absorbency?

Re: Megazorb and Aubiose
Just to mention Geewhiz there is quite a bit of dust with aubiose due to the plant fibres in it.
If you want the least dusty I would say that Fitch is worth considering. It is very soft like tissue balls really!
