Water bottles
Hi, i was reading some threads that discuss some water bottles but nothing in depth and not many suggestions at all, so i decided to open up my own thread to discuss water bottles from brands to types, because i'm having an issue: i bought my 2nd water bottle just now and it's doing the same as the first one - It's dripping enough to leave a substrate area below the tube constantly soaked.
I definitely dont want constant humid / wet substrate as that is the perfect conditions for mold and bacteria to gather up.
What are some good medium or large bottles you guys have that don't drip often enough to the point of leaving wet substrate every day?

Just a thought, when you fill the bottle up do you give it a gentle squeeze when putting the lid back on? This can help, but you do want to ensure that water is still getting through.
I have classic crystal de luxe bottle s - not sure if they are available in the USA

Re: Water bottles
I saw a video by HoppingHammy that said turn it upside down several times while tapping the ball and it stops. Don't have my hamster yet (until this Wednesday!) but she has had them for ages and her youtube channel is quite informative, it may work

Re: Water bottles
I suggest purchasing a non drip water bottle. Or a water bowl. Water bowls are great too

Re: Water bottles
I was also wondering if maybe making it stand up very straight would be bad, but i let it a bit lose to not have it at 90 degrees angle and it still seems to be losing a lot of water as i see the water decreasing rapidly.
But i feel like this needs more discussion and more opinions and experiences

Re: Water bottles
Why don't you simply put a small saucer underneath the bottle? That's what i do. My Syrian's drips a couple of times when i put it in its holder because its plastic. My dwarf has a test tube type glass one from Trixie which doesn't drip at all but works fine.
They both have a water bowl as well and use both.

That's interesting. What made you decide to go with both? - And do your hammies show a preference?

To give them the choice and to ensure there's always
water available even if a bottle should become faulty. I think my dwarf prefers the bowl which is a miniture, one portion jam jar and the perfect size for him.
My syrian's bowl is metal and attached to the bars (the bowl lifts out). I've seen him climbing over it without getting his paws wet! Last time i saw him drink was from the bottle.
