Let's talk Platforms! Anyone used turtle docks?
Has anyone used turtle docks as platforms for their dwarf hamsters? Mine is a Roborovski so I'm kinda concerned that she might get her feet caught in those holes. There's no indication as to the sizing of their holes. How do you usually fill in holes like these, if at all?
I like this because it has a small built-in bowl thingie, and I was thinking of putting some water in there (she will have a water bottle as well, this is more like some back-up). Any thoughts?
Please also share your own ideas for DIY and re-purposed items for platforms and/or ladders, ramps etc., because I was hoping to set up some platforms for her in her bin cage. I'll place the platforms at a low level and avoid any hard objects near the area, so she won't injure herself even if she falls off them onto the substrate.
P/s: I would prefer something I can wash and not cardboard stuff, because I'll have to keep re-making cardboard if she pees or poops on it.

What about going to the bathroom section and look at the soap holders or platforms that are plastic. You might just find a platform the you can hook in my making holes in the bin cage. Finding alternatives is a Good idea! You can also use plastic brown pot plant trays that are rectangular. If you look at my thread with the sand bath I made in the DIY section. It was so easy to cute etc. look for one that is square or rectangular. You can then put a hook on each side sand hook it through the bin. Will keep on wracking my brains. Oh...hang on...IKEA wooden rack https://www.google.com/search?safe=s...s1A0BpAEjszZM:
You place it in the corner and cut out the bottom for burrowing.

Thanks! I'll definitely keep trying. I found some fridge space savers for cheap and wanted to get them (photo as attached) for mini clip-on platforms, and my husband said I'm doing too much. Hrrrrmph. But later that evening he started trying to build a swing for Louise, haha. It's not very safe though (made of string and I'm worried she'll get her teeth stuck in it), so I had to convince him to remove it.

That looks great...those fridge savers would really be great to use. Try avoid string, try mount it to the wall of the bin

I have a platform made from this shelf with dowels glued as legs for my dwarf. I was initially worried about the his feet getting caught in the gaps but he has had no problems with it. https://www.ikea.com/ie/en/p/havern-...mboo-70323186/

I use wooden plaforms for my Robo, but I have covered them in plastikote , which so far has been great at keeping pee at bay, and makes the surfaces quite easy to clean.
I made one of the platforms myself out of popsicle sticks, and the other one I use is from Getzoo. Getzoo also sell a ramp to go with their platforms, but I've just been using straight bendy bridges, which work like a charm.
(I recommend using Chrome with a Google Translate extension for the Getzoo links.)
Hope this helps!

Re: Let's talk Platforms! Anyone used turtle docks?
Thank you everyone, there are so many amazing ideas here. I'll definitely look into slowly building up her platforms and stuff!
I'd also like to ask about swings, actually. Are the chains dangerous (photo of green swing attached), or do I have to pay premium for one that doesn't have chains (photo of pink swing attached)?
The swings without chains come in ecological board (what is this, is it safe?) and pine (which I read that is fine as a solid toy as long as it isn't used as bedding, but I'm still a little worried).

Re: Let's talk Platforms! Anyone used turtle docks?
Personally I would not buy anything with chains on, they can get taffled/caught up in them. They can really hurt themselves in them, i.e. breaking legs etc
if you wanted you could buy the items and replace the chain with acceptable jutse/sissal etc. but if you are doing that, you could kind of make your own, even if it was with cardboard and poked holes in the corner. Although maybe not as aesthetically pleasing.
Have you thought of making your own with lollypop sticks?
