I did have a thought that I should leave Ragna's cage a couple of days but my gut told me to sort it out the minute he started burrowing. I hope I didn't stress him. I didn't touch the nest he was in

Yes, three weeks sounds about right for international shipping. I've ordered some sand and a cooling house for her from a different state... It would be cheaper to order in from a different country actually, but that'll take too long as I really can't wait to give Louise some sand to play around in, and I think she would really appreciate a cooling house as another option for her to cool off in, even though she already has her ceramic cup. I'd be satisfied with that for now and I can slowly order her other toys and stuff internationally. She was sooo adorable, actually asking my husband to pet her head this morning. She snuggled up in a toilet roll after he left, and she looks just like a hamster burrito.

I think you can leave tissue around outside if you want - I left all my tissue outside and she took some into her house. I peeked and found some scrunched balls of tissue inside.

Totally can't wait for Ragna to properly settle down, and for photos of him enjoying his amazing new world. This is so exciting!
Thanks so much for the advice. What I did was I found a website that I could order from. I use desertcart. I then went onto the forum and got ideas and looked on YouTube. I then would stumble on something e.g. whimzees. I would Google them to see what they were then searched them on desertcart. If I saw logs or things in a cage I Google them then found their name and searches it in desertcart. The logs I got were off desertcart and come from the reptile sections. Go and Google Trixie small animal products. Totally amazing!

Ragna must think he's arrived in paradise which he has but i wouldn't fluff around with his cage too much just now. Maybe he burrows because he's trying to hide and who could blame him after what he had to put up with in the pet shop.
Give him time to settle in his new home undisturbed and just talk to him. As long as everything is safe the rest will follow and you can make adjustments later.
What's a skewbald? English isn't my mothertongue and i've never heard this one before.
I think hamsters drop their balls when they are warm and relaxed. Henry's weren't so obvious when i first got him but once they were on display they gave me a fright because i thought there was something wrong with him. I picked an unimpressed Henry up and checked on Google.

Sounds great, I'll be sure to check them out because I keep wondering what else I can do to make my hamster's cage better!

Can't wait to watch the video of Ragna discovering his new world for the first time, I'm sure it'd be super adorable.

I totally get how excited you are to make everything perfect for Ragna, hence your instinct to sort it out for him instantly. I'm sure Ragna is enjoying his peaceful life with you now (the pet store sounds crowded).

I'm not sure how people deter ants, I personally find a way to create a moat around the enclosure. It doesn't have to be very deep or very wide, as ants just can't cross water. I'm not sure how viable an option that would be for your set-up though... . maybe there are other ways. Come to think of it, your set-up is gorgeous for a hamster, but ants also seem to love this kinda stuff too.

You make me laugh about the balls...

Lol...I have no idea what his colour is called in hamster language so I switched to horse language. Skewbald is a white and brown horse mix. I’m not going to adjust anything else until later on. I have no idea how I’m going to spot clean though as he hasn’t used his house and his nest is impossible to clean unless you destroy the area. Any advice on that?

I have attached the adjustments I made - please let me know if you spot anything. I got rid of the fences and used them along the sides to create more bedding depth. I totally see why floorspace is so important.

I absolutely looove that set up.

It looks so natural but with that added extra like out of a fantasy movie where you half expect a fairy to be hiding behind a log.

Skewald is a horse, i see, that makes sense. My first thought that sprung to my mind when i saw Ragna was cow. Close enough. Very unusual colouring. Beautiful hamster and he looks quite big and well fed too.

Now it's my turn to miss the hamster. I can't spot him!

That's a huuuge log, would it be possible to cut it up?

I also want to climb in there and live in his world. The desert is pretty plain.Lol...cow is close to horse! He is big...they say he is 4 months but maybe he is older. The food they feed there is the vitasmart menu which has a lot of corn as a filler so he is quite chubby...lol.
