Default Petgard Borneo L Deluxe

Does anyone have this cage for a Syrian? I'm thinking of upgrading once my hamster is grown up hence started looking around. I like a big front door so the Barney wouldn't be suitable. The Alaska has the right door but is smaller. Any feedback, advice, recommendations appreciated.

Yep. Its brilliant. Quite high so shelves and stuff to stop any falls plus the base is quite shallow so I put those wooden bendy bridges as a wall and heap the substrate up under the hamsters nest so he can make nice deep burrows.

There is a thread somewhere.

Type borneo into the search option on here. I tried to copy and paste the links but it didnt work.

A few people have it It is a very tall cage and it really needs a few shelves or even a full level to set it up safely, so quite a fiddly cage to set up safely to avoid fall risks.

You might like this instead! Savic Hamster Plaza. Also has a big front door. Not as tall - it's a wee bit tall but about the same height as the Alexander cage (both about 48cm high internally), so quite easy to set up.

It's the same size as the Borneo L but not as high. Needs a house and a wheel.

I like that Savic Hamster Plaza cage. That has a nice big door and the height for a 28cm wheel. He's climbed and monkey barred once when he was a baby but not since. Henry has a nice house, tunnels and stuff which i can use. All he'd need is a big wheel and i quite like the silent runner one or a wooden one? That's the next question. Hmm

Tricky choice. I think I would choose the wheel after the cage. ie the wand chooses the wizard Kind of. Easier to get a wheel that goes well with a cage than trying to get a wheel you've got to work with a particular cage. Either of those would be fine. With a free standing wheel though you will have restrictions on wheel height in the substrate area and I always found that annoying. There is also the wodent wheel. Only Rodipet seem to sell it now. It doesn't screw to the bars but it hangs from the top well. Although the cost of it plus postage makes it almost as expensive as the Silent Runner.

I'm biased towards the Silent Runner so see what others say

Yes that makes sense. Henry likes his current cage so i could take my time to set up a new one. I prefer a wheel thats attached to the cage rather than a free standing one. I'll have a look at that Wodent Wheel. There's a khaki coloured silent runner wheel i really like. I'm generally not a fan of plastic but lean more towards it for a hamster wheel.

The Savic Plaza has a nice big front door but no door on the top i've noticed. What i'm looking for is the Alaska cage but bigger so a cross between those two would be perfect! At the moment i can't decide between either of them because i would be compromising no matter which one i'd go for. Am i the only one with this dilemma or am i just being my usual fussy self?

It's like a 100cm version of the hamster heaven, which also doesn't have a door on top. I used to like that because you could use the whole roof for attaching things and no extra escape-routes. Also your hand never comes from the top. It is what you get used to. I have got used to using the top door on the Barney but much preferred the large front opening door on the savic cage.

I had a "roof run" in the savic cage - a large tube tied to the roof, running between the house roof and a rat sputnik, so it was a whole other place to go and more exploring/variety.

But if you really like a top door ......I think you get used to things maybe. The Alexander has a top door but because it's tall and has shelves, some people found it didn't help much having a top door as you couldn't get right down under the shelves.

I want both, a top door which can be small and a large front door plus a 100cm width. I find it easier to hang things on the roof with one hand through the top and the other through the front. I've been eating a lot of pears because i wanted the shaped cardboard trays to hang from the roof with short curtain clips trying to make it darker and more sheltered for Henry overhead. He's in his bed after running around on my bed (ears flat and streamlined, what does that mean?) and doesn't usually bother to check what i'm doing in his cage....unless i touch one of his nests.

For a top door, the Alexander, Barney or Borneo may be best then The Borneo really needs a full level in my opinion - or shelving similar to the Alexander with something blocking the hole in the middle/over it.

Sisal string or rope is safe for hanging things from the bars - not sure what the clips are like but they can get feet/legs or even head caught in clips.

Ears flat sounds like he is feeling a bit nervous of the open space It can be for different reasons. Ears are often down when they haven't fully woken up, or if they're not happy, or just feeling a bit exposed, but if he seems fine generally I shouldn't worry.
