I'm not sure if this is the right forum or not but my hamster keeps biting his cage door. Is there any reason? Is it because he is trying to escape? Or maybe he's trying to trim his teeth?
It's usually because of stress. They are not trying to trim their teeth, it is actually very bad for their teeth and can cause them to grow crooked or break.
The most common cause of stress is that their cage is too small. They are very active animals and if they don't have enough room to run around and things to do they can get bored and stressed very quickly.
Yep quite a few people have pointed to me that the cage is too small and I'm going to get a new one for it. Someone also suggested that I could get toys or toilet rolls for him to chew on. Do you think that's a good idea?
Yep I've caught up on a few of your other threads now.
Toilet roll tubes are an easily available and very cheap thing to give them as a toy and they are completely safe. Most pet shops, or online retailers will also sell toys for small animals made of safe wood that they can chew on. If he has more things to play with he will hopefully spend less time chewing on his cage until you get him upgraded.
You can actually make treat parcels out of toilet rolls That can keep them occupied trying to get inside the parcel to get at the treats! Have a look at this video on 10 toilet roll toys by Erin's Hamsters. It's one of the cheapest safest toys you can give a hamster. They just love a tunnel to run through. Any cardboard tubes are fine. Kitchen roll inner tubes make a longer tunnel and you can also use old Pringles tubes (washed out).
If you do get that one, the wheel is too small and the hut should only really be used as a litter box. I also use the Kaytee Clean and Cozy white bedding. Amazon and eBay are good places to get cheap stuff from, and I’d say some good things to add are toilet roll tubes, chew toys, a Whimzee treat, bendy bridge, sand bath, a large hut to hide in. Those are just some of the things I have. Also I’m not sure if you bring your hammie out in the bath/a playpen for time outside of his cage. If not, it’s a good idea and your hammie will love it
