Default Tanks with lids in UK?

So I know in the US it's very easy to get large tanks with a lid that's ventilated however all the ones I've looked for in the UK are for fish and therefore have a solid lid with no holes. Does anyone know anywhere to get large tanks with meshed lids? Preferably online.

Thank you all!

You're going through all the things I did And I ended up getting the Barney cage. Tanks are tricky. Junglepets make glass tanks for hamsters, with lids. But the sizes aren't quite right - this is a good size - 120cm by 45cm - but it's not very tall - about 38cm tall. So although most wheels would fit you'd have to have a low substrate end. As with the detolf.

They will make custom made sizes as well - I enquired about that once but it was going to be about £120. Delivery is also extra.

There's also the 90cm by 45cm Exo Terra Terrarium - good because it has front opening doors. But it's really expensive - used to be around £150 and it's gone up a lot - maybe import charges.

THANK YOU!!!!!

Honestly, you have no idea how much this info has helped me. Yes, it's annoying that the terrarium is expensive it's getting harder and harder to find decent cages. I think I'll go with the first Junglepets one since it's cheaper and I can afford it since I've been saving.

You also helped with my fear of the Detolf breaking. It was really starting to scare me.

That JunglePets cage would be PERFECT if it weren't for those shelves, I prefer a more clean and crisp look. I'm assuming they're not removable? It just do you think that space in the middle would be big enough for a 12-inch wheel? If so GREAT!

Please correct me if I'm saying anything wrong or am making a bad decision I'm always open to advice.

As a side note, what is going on with that ladder, is it glass? I'll probably use a bendy bridge instead.

If you email them they can quote you for a tank without the glass shelves. Also ask them what the internal height is when the lid is attached. It may be less than 38cm. But a 12" wheel should fit - the silent runner is 35cm tall on its stand. On the other hand if the lid is 3cm deep wood frame it might need a lower wheel.

Thanks, Serendipity7000 I just have 1 more question. Do you think I can ask them to actually just make a taller and longer cage or do they not start from scratch? I realise this will probably go above £120 so maybe not?

Have you seen these, glass tank with sliding lid & doors, still very expensive but has the advantage of easy access with the doors as well as from above. Not a bad size either just a little smaller than the Barney cage & plenty high enough, I think with the doors you would want to put something like cardboard or bendy bridges across the front to have really deep substrate.

That one Cypher linked is another one I looked at getting. And didn't because an experienced owner/breeder said a hamster could chew out of the plastic side vents. Now other people have had this without issue but there was someone who had exactly that issue - the hamster chewed through the side vents.

Junglepets will make a custom size tank whatever size you want. I asked them to quote me for one 50cm deep and 50cm tall (can't remember if that was for 100cm or 120cm long), which they could do - with or without glass shelves. I think shipping was about £50. It has to come on a pallet so it doesn't break. It was about 3 or 4 years ago now and the quote was around £125 I think but may have gone up.

My view on this is - if you go for something 100cm long you'd probably be better with a cage with front access, like the Savic Plaza. If you want something longer than 100cm then a tank or detolf is better.

The other option I looked at for tanks, was the Falco 100 cage. But it doesn't seem to be sold any more and it also had an issue with access. It was a glass tank 100cm by 50cm by 50cm with a cage top on top of it. Now if that cage top had a front opening door it would have basically been a good cage with a very deep glass base. But the only door was on top.

If you're wanting the tank for deep substrate or because you like the look of them more, I would suggest that a cage gives just as much enrichment, if you have a really good house that mimics a burrow system, even though the substrate isn't as deep.

It is a bit of a minefield and I spent ages trying to get the perfect cage - and in the end there isn't one! Everything is a compromise. I personally am with Cypher in that one of the most important things is front access.

The Savic Plaza is the nearest to my perfect cage (it didn't exist when I was looking) - 100 x 50cm and with a large front opening door and the whole of the roof available for attaching things to (I like roof runs that link platforms etc from one side to the other) so I have large rat tubes attached to the roof between hanging sputniks and shelves - it almost doubles the floor area in terms of enrichment.

So is it better to get the cage that cypher mentioned because it has a large front door? Even though it has only 640 sq inches of floor space? Compared to the around 864 in the JunglePets?

Front access is really not essential, some people prefer it others don’t. I wouldn’t pick a smaller cage with front access over a larger one with top access if that’s what the choice came down to. I do think you’d be better with a 120cm tank, 100cm is still quite limited for a Syrian because you cannot make use of the height like you would in a similar sized barred cage. That one is also narrow and doesn’t allow for deep bedding which is something to think about.
