Smile Housing problems

Jovi and I have a few housing problems. I was thinking if I list them one of you helpful people might be able to come up with a solution. He's an 6-8 week old Syrian but I think he's quite large for his age and currently being housed in an Olimpia by Ferplast cage. The problems...

1. I think he is rather large and therefore the cage is too small. Since buying the cage I've read some really bad reviews on it here! Now wishing I'd done some some research.

2. The wheel is really noisey and it also looks a bit small for him. He live in the lounge but can still be heard clear as day in my room.

3. The upper part is very hard to clean and as thats where he's decided to do his business, it needs cleaning everday. I'm disabled and its very hard for me to do all this unaided (my carer hates him and screems, so not very helpful on taming).

The bottem line is that I want to buy a new cage, one thats big enough, easy to clean, preferably with a side opening door rather than top and something with a quieter wheel or room enough for a silent one to be fitted. Any help and advice is much appreciated...

Thanks

Kate and Jovi.

Have you had a look at the cage review section? The Olympia is not suitable for an adult syrian as you have found out!
From what you describe you would like I would suggest something like the Savic Cambridge
Savic Cambridge Navy Blue Hamster Cage 62x36x43cm by: Savic - Amazing

Add a wodent wheel or Wonderland wheel which are quiet:

Exercise Wheels: great selection at zooplus

The Duna Multy is a nice tank type cage but is top opening:

Cages : Ferplast Duna 'Multy' Guinea Pig and Rabbit Cage + FREE DELIVERY : www.EquineCanineFeline.com the place to buy all your Pet Products, Horse Products and Pet Supplies online

You can fit these out with above wheels and lots of toys and the tray is very easy clean though you will find when out of the plastic box type cage it does not need cleaned as often!

If you shop around you can find these cheaper I think (except the Multy) and e bay is a good place to watch too.

Once you put together the shelves in Savic Cambridge you dont need to take them out and you can easily wipe them from the upper door and side door. I have that cage and im really happy about it. Good luck! Search for a cage is always hard. Sometimes bin-type cage is better if you are worried about bar-biting.

Just a little update. Went bdown to the village pet shop not expecting much but to my surprise they are ordering me in a Cambridge! Hopefully a happier hamster but also eaiser for me. Also managed to find a wodent wheel for cheaper than zooplus. Check out Shropshire exotics. If you want to order you need to call them direct, but they are happy to ship orders. I got a juniour sized one for £12.50 but cant remember if that included p+p but its better than paying over £20!
