Glad you said that as I've just ordered one! The Silent Runner was out of stock so the decision was made for me and I found it quite cheap so pretty happy! Have you Plastikoted yours? I read a recommendation to and am thinking it could be a good move. I've had a few 'run and wee' hamsters in the past!

Those wooden wheels are good, definitely recommend plastikote as you can never get pee out of wood that hasn't been painted!

I love my Syrian’s wooden wheel! Gonna buy a few more for my dwarfs soon! Because they’re made of wood though, I recommend checking for splinters before giving to your hammie just in case.

Plastikote is a must - plus its not too expensive and goes a long way! If you ever decide to make diy toys, or buy more wooden toys you can use the leftovers

The wooden wheel showed up today in an order with some chinchilla sand and a few other things and I'm really unimpressed to be honest. Partly the fault of the site but I basically received a box of loose sand which is now all over the carpet (Dad not amused!!!) and the wheel is wonky, noisy and really rough and looks poorly made. The noise may be due to the sand potentially getting in the ball bearings and I could sand it back for the roughness as advised but the wonkiness is still an issue and all in all I won't be ordering from that site again once this stuff is sent back. In other annoying news, I mainly chose this wheel over the Silent Runner as I wasn't sure if the height of that one might be too close to the ceiling in the Duna Maxi Multy I have but I figured I'd have to risk it so I go back to the sugar gliders site..... and it's sold out!!! I'm getting quite stressed now as I've only got a few weeks 'til my little miss arrives and this is already unsuitable wheel number 2! I'm exasperated!!!!!

Oh no that's a bit of a disaster. The wooden wheels sometimes are wonky - my current one is and is now starting to rattle after only a few weeks which I'm really not impressed with. And you usually have to sand them down before use. Now thinking about ordering a wooden rodipet wheel instead but they're very expensive! It looks well made though.

Edit: Don't think the 12" silent runner will fit in the maxi multy, it's a really low cage.

What about this one? Can anyone shed any light?

I'd be really grateful for any advice (as if I haven't had enough!)

If the wooden wheel fits then maybe ask for a replacement. Usually they work fine so if there's still a few weeks that's an option. Otherwise, you could get a 11" wodent wheel which should fit fine, you're more or less guaranteed better quality with that.

Honestly that plastic trixie wheel varies even more than the wooden one. The 8" ones are noisy enough so wouldn't like to imagine what the Syrian sized ones are like. But if you desperately need a wheel they're probably fine, it's just wodent wheels have a much sturdier build. I had a Syrian trixie wheel years ago and seem to remember it being okay but I can't remember too well.
