Silent runner seized up
Hi, I am using a silent runner for Billy my syrian foster ham but it's suddenly seized up on me and barely turns. Its been so good for ages I didn't expect it to do that. Anyone else had this problem? I wondered if rust had developed in the inner metal bit that turns, or something. Can you oil them?

Re: Silent runner seized up
It's best to oil the bearings in the middle regularly, if you give it a good oil now & leave it to get right in there it might be ok.
It could be that some sand or dust from the substrate has got in there too although I haven't had a problem with any of mine.

Hmm. Do you have the sort where the bearings are visible? Mine are encased in plastic and i wouldn't know where to put the oil. I think it's my mistake as I drowned it he other day cleaning it

Re: Silent runner seized up
I hadn't realised until I looked just now that they changed the design a bit, I do have the open ones & have been really careful to never get them wet!
Having them covered in plastic seems like a good idea but I guess if they do get wet they won't dry out & I would have no idea about oiling them or drying them, sorry.

Re: Silent runner seized up
I think mine are enclosed - one of the early ones? But I do seem to remember instructions not to submerge the bearings in water. However I also think they can be sent back to have the bearings replaced - but not sure how much that would cost! Oiling them might be worth a try.

Re: Silent runner seized up
You could probably buy a couple of new wheels for the price of shipping from them!

Re: Silent runner seized up
Thanks everyone! I have been sent some new bearings from the sugar glider shop. They are so good there. Hopefully everything will be ok once I work out how to change them over!

Re: Silent runner seized up
Great news I had a look on there and couldn't see them listed so I guess they just did you a favour - yes they are good like that. Hope it all gets sorted ok.
