Syrian Space Needs
Hello everyone,
I am looking to buy or adopt a Syrian hamster soon. While planning for this I have been a bit overwhelmed with the "options" in pet stores. I seriously debating whether to build my own cage using acrylic as the acrylic terrariums are somewhat expensive.
What is the minimum space a Syrian hamster should have to be happy?
I only ask because I really don't want to buy nor build something too small for the future fluff ball.
Thank you in advance,
Barbara

Re: Syrian Space Needs
Personally I would advise on not going any smaller than 80x50cm as it can be quite difficult to fit the necessary Syrian sized items within the cage without it being too cramped. The minimum size does depend upon the individual hamster itself as to what size is best (my girl is very happy in her 120x60cm DIY cage whereas my past hamster Toffee would have been very scared in a cage of this size).
A advantage of building a DIY cage is that it possible to design a cage which has capability of being expanded if you feel it necessary.

Re: Syrian Space Needs
Thank you so much for your input! With this, I will lean towards the DIY option and carefully plan the cage as big as I can (I think I have more than the minimum available). I would like to get a spunky/energetic hamster so that they can enjoy the space.
Thank you again!
