It's very important your cage has adequate ventilation at all times & more importantly at night when your ham is most active so you really can't keep the cage covered, anything that was enough to keep the light out would also keep air out.
Could you possibly put your ham in another room?
If you absolutely must have light on & can't put your ham in another room then I would suggest you get a dim red light, hams see very poorly at the red end of the spectrum so tolerate red light well but it still mustn't be bright if it will be on all night.
