Default Meshing a guinea pig cage?

P@H are selling 100 x 50cm ferplast guinea pig cages for £35 right now and I'm thinking of meshing one to use as a russian hamster cage since it's A LOT cheaper than a hamster cage the same size (and there's the option of a pink base!). Does anyone have tips or advice for meshing cages and keeping russian hamsters in bar/meshed cages (i've only kept them in dunas and bin cages).

You'd need a good mesh(not vinyl coated, those aren't safe)with appropriate spacing.Just be careful when handling sharp edges(file them before attaching!)and use common sense safety procedures and you should be able to avoid any substantial injury

If you can get a sheet of wire or a roll that is as wide as the cage. You can have one piece to cover the front, top and back of the cage. Or each end and the top. Bend the wire to fit. It means less cutting and joins which leave less sharp edges.

For an extra £15 you could get a Barney cage from zoo plus website. No meshing needed. The cage is the same size as the guinea pig cage and you get a level, house and a wheel (wheel is ok for dwarfs and small Syrians. Even if just used temporarily).

Honestly meshing is such a faff and so painful!

Look on zoop!us fab cages fab prices. Good luck.

Also, not zooplus but the duna multy is a great dwarf hamster cage if you prefer the tank style. Just under 80 x 40cm.

Duna Multy Fun is what I'm using for my Stephano I took the upper platform out though (2 platforms makes it so hard to access the cage floor) so I could use that in a regular multy if I buy another.

Also thanks everyone, I'll let you know how it goes if I do decide to try meshing the cage. Reading your comments made me start having flashbacks to when I had to cut mesh for my bin cages haha

The duna multy is the cage that I have, it is bigger than the fun I think.

I made some rabbit runs which involved cutting mesh. OUCH.

There's two versions of the fun one that's the same size as the mini duna (duna fun) and one that's the same size as the duna multy (duna fun large). I think there's also one that's a combi? My Russian is in a duna fun large and my robo is in a duna fun until he outgrows it and is moved to a bin cage.
